Default Fitting Ducktail - Hit a snag.

Well, I attempted a trial fit of my newly acquired ducktail at the weekend, to check panel gaps etc , and to see if I actually like the look of it in the flesh, before I splash out on a new engine cover grillle.

Except it doesn't fit - the hinge spacing is different (so much for the vendor saying it was a straight swap!) I had a feeling this might be the case, so it wasn't too much of a surprise.

So, anyone have any sources for a fitting kit/mounting adaptor to enable the ducktail to be fitted to the later cars? I've done a search on Rennlist, but can't seem to find anything concrete.

I've seen a few 964/993's kicking about on here with ducktails, so there must be a way round this.

Cheers all!

you need a pair of right angle bracket adaptors...

there is a picture floating around somewhere if you search the ducktail threads.

Talk to the lads @ Getty Design as I believe they can straighten things away for you via adapter plates that I believe that they stock. I'm to receive my Getty Ducktail back from paint this week for trial fit and install. Getty absolutely assured that their Ducktail for 964 had/has correct spacing; so I'll soon see.

What is the thinking about correct shocks for lifting the aftermarket Ducktail lid ? Some time ago I'd put on "heavy duty" pieces that literally fling the OE engine cover up - I'm a bit concerned over re-use of these with a lighter aftermarket lid. I would hope that the standard duty piece would be correct for my new application, no ?

Thanks for the responses - gotta love Rennlist!

Quick update - Had a reply from Neil at Getty re the mounting adapters - They don't make them any more.

But, what he did suggest is that using a set of 964 Turbo hinges would be the best solution, as they have the correct spacing for older lids such as the ducktail?

Now... I have a friend with a set of Carrera 3.2 hinges from a whaletail car, am I right in assuming they might also be the correct fitment for the ducktail?

I have the same heavy duty shocks that fling open the engine cove, so I'd be interested in any suggestions for this also.

I looked into finding some hinges from a turbo or RSA but found them to be expensive (even from the salvage places), so I'll be in the shop today making some brackets out of some aluminum that I got at Home Depot. I'll try and post some photos throughout...

Its not a duck tail, I thought the hinge picture would help, the spoiler is off a 911 SC, with the rear wiper blade hole filled in as the 964 is in the window, wanted it to look a bit like an RS America, but lost my way a little bit with the RUF items. If you look at Tahoe Blue thread my car is on there.
