name that leak
I would like to find the source of a engine oil leak on the right side of the car, oil dripping on the heat exchanger from the top see pic.Car:92 964 C2 120k mi.
My guess is the seal from the power steering sprocket. What does involve to have the problem fixed?I am sure others encountered same problem,so I ask first before starting to pull things apart.
Thank you,Adrian.

(thanks, Ilk, for that fine display of First-Name Tourettes.) ("-Ilko!")
What's the leak smell, feel, taste like? Don't go poisoning yourself, but oil, brake, and power steering fluid got their own distinct 'ways'.
*I* got a long-shot bet that it's coming off your oil pressure sender body seal. (But I've been wrong before...)

My oil leak in that area was from the cam seal to the PS pump. Fix = $650 by an indy, or if you don't want to drop the engine, 5 bucks for the seal and lots of contortions to get to the PS bolts.
For an oil sender unit, look at the top of the engine under the air filter housing for puddles.

I had same problem and it was coming from PS pump (servo)!I replaced all gaskets-seals!My mechanic didn't use oem gaskets, he used from some Mercedes which fit perfectly on Porsche PS! Mine leak was nasty because it would come all the way to exhaust and after I shut down my engine gray smoke would come from end of my car annoying...

Think about converting to manual steering if you have a C2. I installed the RSA manual steering rack, but frankly I did not feel any difference in the friction due to the hyduaulics. I wish I had simply cross-connected the supply and return hoses at the steering rack. It sure does tidy up that side of the engine compartment when you take out the reservoir, hoses, and the pump.
I also replaced the oil pressure sending unit seal using Garrett's DIY. That is a bit of chore, but also doable. The old O-ring crumbled when I removed it, but so far it had not leaked (65 K miles). The "while you are in there" list gets quite large, as cleaning the intake is a no-brainer while you have that off to get to the oil sender seal. My car is still on jacks because my work travel increased, and the new girlfriend keeps making better offers...

First,I want to thank everyone who responded. The leak is definitely motor oil and like others experienced its very annoing when it drips on the heat exchanger making all that smoke...
I got home late so I will investigate the source of the leak tomorrow.Ill keep you posted...

I was able to get the cover off without moving the oil line but damaged the seal in the cover when I first reinstalled it trying to squeeze it in. I did manage to get it in without damaging the seal or moving the oil line.

+1 on not moving the oil line. This was my first project on the car and it was not exactly fun since I was trying it with the car on ramps instead of jack stands. However it can be done and since the seals are inexpensive, for a lot less than having a mechanic doing it.

FYI - I found a very good summary thread on this procedure here:
