What to do....
I posted this in the 993 section, but thought I would also post here since I would definitely like to know what you guys think of the 964 C4.
Hey guys, have not been on this forum for a while since I sold my 996. Time has come for me to look into getting a new to me 911, but I am undecided on what to get. I have about $25-30 to spend and do not care if it is high mileage as long as it was well maintained. It will be my everyday driver year round so it will see snow duty. Lately Toronto has been getting hit hard, so I can expect at least 3 months of the year to be covered in snow. I do NOT want another 996 and want to try an air cooled one now. So my thoughts are the following:
993 Coupe (my favorite body style) - how do these handle in the snow, anyone with expericence please chime in.
993 C2S or C4S - I'm afraid these may be out of my budget, but would like to know people's opinion on whether they are worth the premium or not
964 Coupe - thinking of a C4 for the snow duty, but worried about reliability and every day driving
930 Coupe - worried about how the car will do in the snow
911 Coupe - worried about the age of the vehicle, almost 20+ years old and worried about everyday reliablilty. Would not spend as much as the others, so it is an option.
I plan on keeping this car for a very long time and in about 4-5 years getting a new 911 and keeping this as my daily driver. Any guidance or input would be appreciated.

I noticed that you live in Montreal, how has the car been for you since you guys usually get a lot more snow than us. I am looking and taking my time. If I do go with a 964 C4 than I will give up my 97 M3 Coupe. I was going to keep and convert to a DE car, interested in a trade maybe......
It all comes down to personal experience. What do you prefer to drive? In terms of reliability the 964 is just as solid as any other 911. My thoughts are this if you are going to be driving year round purchase snow tires. A C4 is a great car in either the 993 or 964. The 964 is a very capable car in the snow. For your budget you can purchase any of the models listed. Though some of the 993's especially the C4s will possibly be out of reach. Just keep in mind finding a well maintained car is the most important thing. You should be able to enjoy your 911 for many years. Drive as many as you can and welcome to the air cooled world.

Well I have given it a lot of thought and I am swaying towards a 964. It has always been one of my favorite body style and I think I can find a nice example within my budget and still have some left over for some nice mods. I am not to concerned about a C2 or C4 since I am used to driving RWD in the snow and would equip the car with snow tires and weight in the front during the winter months, but of course C4 would be nice. So now the search begins for the right 964, not in a hurry, just want one with good maintence history and records.
I drive my 1989 964 all winter for the last nine years in Tahoe. I take great care of it an it just runs great all year long. I just love driveing it in the snow I have two sets of tires for my car. My car has never let me down one time in the last nine years! It looks an runs like a new car if you get a really good one you will be very happy with it. Vernon
