Go Pro Camera
Dwane, they are expensive for the quality they deliver. I use an Aiptek HD camera in my car. Do a search on "Aiptek" in the Racing & DE forum, you'll find are a number of threads with great info.
I would not buy it again. Fun toy but crappy video quality IMO. Also a little quirky for me as my first race with it, no video. Shut off before the race started and could not transfer any video on another. We will see this season if I can figure out how to make it more reliable.

I concur. Its only $189, and the beauty of the camera is that it comes with a pretty decent assortment of mounts.
The following link is some video I shot and edited where I placed the camera in several different locations on the car. Note that this was my 1st use of the camera, so some of the angles and camera positions I chose will need some improvement.
Right now I have two quick mount pads in/on the car, and one on my helmet. And, there is a suction cup mount that you can install on any flat surface, vertical or horizontal.
As for negatives, I will say in my experience thus far, the audio has been pretty poor, thus the reasoning behind the music that I mixed in.

Note: You will need Quicktime if you want to watch this.

PS: I would probably agree with the "fun toy" comment. There is only so much you can do with it, but what tricks it can do are loads of fun.

I've got one the Motorsport Hero which is the original 3megapixie jobbie, now they do a 5megapixie, which is only relevant for still shots.
I got it for capturing some touring on my motorcycle, and I'm not that thrilled with it. It chews batteries like nothing else, so expensive Lithium AAA's are required. Rechargables dont last long enough.
On the bike its hard to find a stable mounting point, lots of vibrations dont make for good video or stills.
There's a couple of examples on my vimeo page, like above, once you get going the sound is broken up too much by wind noise and vibrations, so I've mixed in some music. GoPro Vid example
I'd buy something different if this one broke, probably an Oregon Scientific ATC3K or 5K, or just get a Sony bullet cam and connect it to a DV Camera.

My first one failed and got sent back - but they were v.good about sending a new one.
Both had/have awful audio. Video is good (not great) but I too thought I had it on when it wasn't. Could be the operator (me) but an easily readable LED that is external that lets you know if it is active I think would be invaluable.

I have not had issues with mine. It has been pretty reliable but you do have to pay attention to the mode the camera is set on. (stills or video). Quality is fine for the price. Here is video taken from the most recent Porsche Rennsport Reunion. No issues editing using movie maker.

I have used the gopro and it takes a bit to get used to the camera as far as which functoin your in. For the price it is a good camera. I use the rechargables batteries and get two hours of video time. As for the sound, keep it on the low sound function or the incoming sound will be distorted when listening.
