Default ABS non-functional - no warning light

As the title says, I got my car back from it's service and brake refurb yesterday and was told that they discovered on the final road test that the ABS wasn't working although there is no warning light (bulb DOES work). It may be that the ABS hasn't been working in the 5 years I've had the car since I've never been in a situation where it would need to work.

Has anyone any ideas where to look first?? There was "an ABS relay - 928.618.931.02" replaced some years ago when I was searching for the demon ABS/PDAS alarm problem - which was subsequently narrowed down to coil and distributor cap problems and has never re-occurred since. I'm guessing that any major problem with the ABS controller would result in a warning light so, again, a guess, the problem may just be that the ABS system isn't being called into action even though the system itself is operational.

Suggestions please.

Regards

Dave

Dave,

These are the same symptoms as mine. I discovered it wasn't working first time out with it at Donington. Removing all four speed sensors, cleaning them and vacuuming out the hubs where they fit, did the job for me.

Mine too. Mine works very occasionally and I too have no warning lights. Will have to give those sensors a good clean.

Cheers

Steve,

Thanks for that. I think I might wait until the weather gets a bit warmer and I'll have a look.

I cleaned sensors. A very easy job. 1 mm allen wrench, as I remember. It didn't solve my problem, but my sensors are very clean.

Another with non-functioning ABS. Replaced the front sensors, but still no joy...
