For a while now I have not been able to lock the car from the driver's side door. I put in the key, turn it, and I can see the lock button/peg (with the red led) on the window ledge twitch inside, but neither the drivers door or the passenger door will lock, and the buttons remain up.
I then walk around to the passenger door, and lock the car successfully, both doors, with the key from there.
I feel this is a standard, simple problem to solve, but I've confused myself by reading the archives of other locking problems, none of which seemed to be quite the same as mine.
Is this a bad connection, something related to the striker plate? Where should I start to look?
Just spitballing, here Julian, but the symptom of the driver's side door (DSD) working when 'driven' from a signal from the PSD's lock sensing mechanism, says to me, that if the same signal were coming from the DS sensing mechanism(s), all would be fine.
Hence, I'd resign myself to start looking through posts on troubleshooting that DSD 'key-turning-sensing' mechanism.
Probably a DSD microswitch -- but like I said -- that's just an amateur's spitball guess... Ya know?
Good luck!
And may Santa deliver you a snappy, working-to-spec door lock assy in the New Year.
I agree with elbeee964, it sounds like the DSD key microswitch isn't sending the proper signal to the alarm/lock controller. Or it could be a wiring issue at the microswitch. The microswitch is attached to the key cylinder and is replaceable.
What happens if both doors are locked and you try to unlock the DSD with the key? Does the center console lock switch and DSD turn **** work properly?

Thanks for the suggestions.
If both doors are locked, I can unlock both of them using the key on the DSD.
The DSD **** does turn and lock/unlock the DSD.
I never use the centre console switch, so am not sure if it is working or not!
So what is the best way of tackling this: do I need to take the door panel off to gain access, or is there something simpler I can try first?
Thanks for all the expert advice.
Yes, you'll have to take the inner door panel off to gain access to the door handle from the inside. There are 2 nuts that hold it on that are inside the door. There's a very nice guide. Please search for Door Panel Removal Guide, a post by Mark Shaw.
The only special tool that I needed was a long 5mm allen wrench to take out 2 screws that hold the bottom of the door handle. Everything else I believe are phillips head screws. The guide is the bomb for removing the door panel.
