Default Question for RSA/Turbo owners....

I'm having some trouble mounting the RS 3.8 wing/decklid. The mounting holes are at least 1 inch closer together than my stock decklid. Can someone please measure the distance between the mounting holes on their rear decklid?
Do I need to get different hinges or make up some sort of adapter plate?

What is the difference in the hinges for the C2/C4 decklid hinges with part #964.512.023.02 and the Turbo/RSA hinges which are different for R/L with part #'s 965.512.019.00 and 965.512.020.00?

I'm not going to be much help here, as the RSA is in the garage up at the track. But I VAGUELY remember when taking the stock decklid/wing from RSA #1 several years ago to install on the '92 C4, that there was something extra on the RSA to make up a difference that you mentioned.

So, I guess we have to wait for someone with a car handy!

On the RSA, and I think turbos are the same, there is a angle bracket that bolts to the C2 hinges that moves the mounting holes over to accomodate the difference in width. The hinge is the same. It would be a pretty easy fab out of a 1.25x1.25x1/8" aluminum angle. If you do a search there is a post about this subject that was done within the past two months that shows the bracket in detail, but if you flip the lid upside down it's easy to see what the bracket needs to do. This is a factory C4lightweight but the detail looks similar:

Thanks....

So do you have to drill holes in the wing above the hinge so you can mount the plate? Can you post a larger version of that photo? I'm looking for the other thread but can only find one without photos.

Jonny....what's the story on your avatar?...what's the story on that beastie looking power plant.

Bracket not to hard to make and fit...just time consuming...depending how well you want to the lid to fit. I suggest having some help w/the holding so the measuring is accurate.

my duck tail is made from scratch so can't help you re drawings, etc. Suggest want to buy one from Getty as they make one for the 964 so it has the right spacing.

Shipping???? New policy here...anything bought in the US includes free shipping....didn't you hear?....all part of a stimulus thingy....I don't think you need to pay for it for a couple of years either....

If you have one in the garage...then by all means make the bracket and knock it on! Personally I wish I had been able to do my car w/o a wing, but w/the i/c I needed one and the smallest most esthetically pleasing is the duck...heavily modified, but a duck.

I wish that engine was in the rear of my vehicle, found it in a classified ad for a 3.8 RSR....I hope to build a replica of this car one day!

On the bracket, I guess I can put the angle piece on the inside of the hinges flush with the top and drill into the hinge from the side to mount it, that way the top of the hinge will be flat and I won't have any issues with having to drill into the wing. I hope someone comes through with the more detailed photo before I potentially start down the wrong path!

I went out and snapped a pic, I'll post it in the morning, I have to find the usb cable for this camera... really doesn't look to hard to fab, I need to dig around in the "extras" box from the racecar I think I have an extra set of brackets I could trace (and no I want to hang on to them for the other tail on the car...)

I looked at my RSA vs. 911...
The holes on your wing sound like those for an earlier car.

Don't know if this helps, but here's some detail/overview shots between a C2 (mine) and KV's RSA:

(there's many subtle differences between the two tail types)

Heres the detail of the bracket its about 1-1/8" x 1-1/8" x 5-1/4" long, a peice of aluminum would do...
