Default 964 Fuel Tank - anyone converted their 964 to a track car & don't need the OEM tank?

Have any of you guys converted your 964 into a dedicated track car and pulled the fuel tank and replaced it with a fuel cell? Do you still have the OEM tank sitting around?

Long story short, the dealer just diagnosed my fuel leak problem...the carbon canister on my '90 964 became clogged and the solenoid continuned to pull fuel from the tank...effectively creating a vacuum effect on the tank causing it to collapse in on itself and now leak fuel. So I need to replace the 964's tank, control unit, sending unit, and carbon canister.

Just curious if any of you guys had a 964 fuel tank sitting around that you no longer need...the dealer would like over $1,200 for a new one...plus another $500 for the control unit. And it will take 2 weeks to get here from Germany! Oh, and this is my daily driver.

Usually, I'm all for replacing a worn part with a new one. But, since the tank is not mechanical I can't see why a used one couldn't be substituted. Definitely going to put a new carbon canister in since it's the source of this headache...

While I can find used tanks via the used parts guys (i.e., PartsHeaven), I was hoping to find someone here who would like to donate to a worthy 964 and fellow 964 enthusiast!

Just in case you are forced to buy a new one, you may consider installing the 92l extended range tank.

I have one in my 964 and it's a nice piece.
Here is a pic from Gert's website:

You could also try Jeff at Sunset Imports; they usually have the best price and parts location.

Bad timing, I threw mine in the garbage a few months ago.

Back to top...anyone???

Tom: Yes, too bad my fuel leak didn't happen sooner. At some point, someone here like you will raise their hand to let me know that they have one sitting around their garage not being used. Of course, that will be after I order the replacement tank tomorrow...

ltc: That's a great idea, but at $2K for the tank alone, I don't think I'll get the ROW tank. Sad, b/c you know there are perfectly good used 23 gal tanks just sitting around in European salvage yards

I just pulled mine last week to put in a fuel cell. If it doesn't work out with Group911, send me a PM.

you can also use the 993 tank - it is a direct fit for the 964
opens up your options on a used one.

Thanks guys. Was able to secure a used 964 tank here in North Carolina for from dcAutomotive (a Porsche recycler in Panorama and other Porsche publications).

Cost was $200 plus shipping and it will be in my hands on Friday so I can deliver it to the dealer and hopefully have my car back by Monday.

Thanks for the above posts!
