Part # help....I'm missing the recirc button from my climate control unit. On the part diagram, I only see a switch with one button and mine has 2 (1 for defrost and 1 for recirc). Any help would be appreciated.

Dude im in the same boat.... my 2 buttons have become loose and ugly. I actually found them on some Porsche parts website a year or two ago for around 80 dollars. But to this day i have not been able to find it again and i have looked and looked. Let me know if you find it.

The problem is that there are several combinations of CCU, depending on whether you have a/c and whether it's LHD or RHD. PET only shows the single recirc switch in the diagram but lists some variations in the listing. The dual defrost/recirc switch is actually one switch unit but it's not clear from PET which part number it is. It looks like 944.653.923.00 is the single recirc switch and, I'm guessing, 944.653.921.00 is the dual switch (optioned with M573 - air conditioning).
You cannot replace the button alone I'm afraid - you have to dismantle the front of the CCU to remove and replace the whole switch unit.

Dave

Looks like part # is 944 653 921 00 for the recirc button if you have ac. Good luck.
Sorry, I'm and idiot and didn't see that you have a 2 button. I remember that the early 964 had a 1 button ac button, but I'll have to look at mine to see. Good luck.

I have the 2 button switch. My recirculation button was broken, and kept falling off. I bought the 2 button switch from Sunset, I believe, for about $80, but was told that it was difficult to install the entire unit as it required a lot of soldering. My solution was to use some used dental tools to gently pry the new button off the new switch, then press it into my existing one.
It worked, but you must be very careful with it, as the connectors for the button are extremely fragile (guess that's why everyone's breaks off). My lower button is now broken, so I'll be doing the same thing with the remaining button soon.
Patience here pays off.

Clay,
I can assure you, from personal experience, that there is NO soldering involved in changing the switches. The switch unit clips into the facia of the CCU and the circuit board on the back has push-fit connectors which mate with the switches. You only have to undo the nuts holding the fan and temperature selector pots to allow you to prise off the circuit board.
Removing the button from the switch is very precarious since there is a tendency for the switch internals to explode in front of you. That's exactly what happened to my a/c switch - hence my experience!!

Hmm. I'll take your word for it, but can't understand why my repair place, which specializes in Porsches, would say that if it were such a simple job. Thanks for the heads up.

I went through this last winter because my switch covers were scratched and crappy looking. Yes the switches simply push on the PCB, and yes they are ridiculously expensive new. BUT, notice the part numbers are 944....
Buy a CCU from a 944/951 owner for much less than a 964 owner would want and rob the switches. In my case I resold the CCU (less the switches) to another 944/951 owner. Net cost was only around $30 for both switches.

On my 964T with aircon, the faces of the defrost & recirculating buttons are pretty well worn and look tatty. The buttons are one on top of each other on the left hand side of the CCU (LHS cos I'm in the UK).
Reading this thread, am I right in thinking that I can replace them with a single switch unit which has both buttons on it? And is it tricky to do? Any help would be great, thanks. Josh

It's fairly easy to do and I have done it myself. You need to remove the CCU using the standard radio removal tools which you can get from Halfords etc, and then from memory, just remove the ***** on the front and then unclip the front panel which in turn allows you to remove the switch unit.
