Corbeau vs. Recaro seats

Corbeau vs. Recaro seats
Looking to install a set of racing seats in my 92 C2 coupe. Anyone with experience with either? For the price of one Recaro, I can get a pair of Corbeaus. However, I am looking for quality and safety. Am I paying for the Recaro name, or are they actually a better value? (Comparison: Corbeau FX-1 vs. Recaro Pole position)
Thanks for the help.

I have Corbeau and can't wait to get Recaros in the car. There is a huge diffference in the comfort of the seats. Corbeau doesn't have the angle of the seat back right, Recaro does.
The only ssue that I've seen w/ pole positions is the alignment of the holes for a DAS cross bar. The harness doesn't go through cleanly, but it probably depends on the seat height too. All the cars I've been in have been set up for 6'+ drivers. The Profi XL is a wide seat that also has a taller hole that would solve that problem.

Recaro's are a very high quality product. The pole position is a very comfortable seat on the street and track. They are also somewhat period correct for the 964 since its basically the same seat that came in the euro RS. They are expensive but they also hold their value very well and you could probably sell them down the road and not loose much.

I have corbeau, and like bill, can't wait till I get a set of recaro's in the car. The angle is wrong, and I haven't been able to make my seats feel totally comfortable. But, for track work, they work much better than stock seats and belts.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for the quick responses. Looks like Recaro is the seat of choice. Thanks for helping me make this decision. Looking forward to my first track session with 6 point harness/Recaros.
Thanks again,

Yeah i agree with above comments.
Recaro are the best, but are pricey IMO.
Ive recently fitted cobra seats in my car, and consider them a resonable alternative for the money.

When I bought the Corbeau FX-1 Pro it was because they fit me so well but they ould be much stiffer and with a HANS device the seat angle is less than perfect (thats with a 1/2" shim up front).
Get the Recaros- the delta in $$ is worth it IMO.

Try before you buy
As Bill Verburg said, the XL version of a Recaro may be better for you because the belt holes are higher.
If there is any way to actually sit in the candidate seats before buying you can confirm the fit and alignment for your body. You may find the Cobra works better for you than the Recaro.
BTW you can adjust your shoulder height in the seat and get some more head clearance by removing the seat cushion or substituting a thinner one. I did that with my Cobra and it works very well on the track.

I don't remember exactly what in the Corbeau line I was interested in, but eventually did get the Recaro PP's thru a local racers "garage" outfit. I paid ~ $1,100 otd for both sides in standard black cloth (since replaced w/ "Ruf" fabric). The PP's in cooperation with the BK harness bar is a zero issue install.

That red 964 looks great with that seat/belt setup. Quick question; did you gain any additional headroom with those seats over the stock seats?
Thanks and I am ordering the Recaros today.

My apologies for the hijack, but...
I have been working towards getting a listing together of some items that I would like to sell. Among the items is a one-year-old set of leather Pole Positions, that I ordered through Northstar, that I just replaced in order to be able to run with a HANS device (I am 6'-3", and the shoulder harness slots are just a tad too low to work well with HANS). I custom ordered these, with a smaller logo in black stitching for a "cleaner" look.
I will put together a formal listing for the For Sale Forum, but thought I would mention this here in case of interest. Please feel free to PM me in the meantime.
Best regards,
Dave

mwneedham - I can't really definitively say if I've gained headroom - but I think so. Remember that with the Recaro side mounts you've got 3 mounting positions at both ends. I think I did the mid position front and low position rear which gives me perfect location. Headroom for me (6') with lid @ track was no problem whatsoever.
The PP's are a damn fine unit. Zero issues.
