I was driving home from Providence today, and a Honda was trying to make a left coming from the opposite direction. The cars in the lane next to me were all at a stand-still approaching an intersection, and I was going maybe 35mph as I approached. One of the cars at a stand-still let the Honda go in front of them so he could make his left hand turn, but he didn't see me in the right lane, and i didn't see him until it was too late.

First of all, his car is definitely totaled. Second, I'm incredibly surprised at the relative lack of damage on my 964. The other driver was issued a citation for failing to yield while turning, and we both share the same insurance company, so I'm confident about getting everything resolved. My main problem was that I was thinking about selling this car in the summer before going to business school. Part of me, and maybe a big part of me, is hoping my 964 is totaled, but given that i was able to drive away from the accident (a mile to a relative's house), I'm not so sure.

Anyway, for your viewing (dis)pleasure:

Ouch! If the hood is ok, I would guess that is ~$3.5k of damage.

Glad you are ok and yes, did the airbag go off? Take it to the best shop you can possibly find for your quote. Its very, very difficult to estimate the cost of a potential repair without knowing the full extent of the damage

It was a shock to see those beautiful Amazon fenders all smashed when I opened the thread as my new car is Amazon (or it was before I washed it down to bare metal) and I dread another accident after my C4 got totaled.

Best of luck!

Sorry about your accident. The plastic bits, fender damage, lights, bumper, and the right front wheel will quickly add up. Then factor in labor. My guess, having gone through repairs back in July and knowing another 964'er who had a similar accident as you, is that you are looking at about $7k. Remember I said guess. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

It's not cheap to fix these cars. Fenders, paint, bumpers etc....it all adds up. Sorry to see the car in this state.

Is there an epidemic of Mass based 964's having people pulling out in front of them without bothering to look (and in my case; also talking on their cellphones). Depending on the mileage and cluelessness (highly likely) of the person doing the estimate, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting it totalled. If that's what you really want? Here's my educated guess ...

PARTS 7330.15
BODY LABOR 49.0 HRS @$ 36.00/HR 1764.00
PAINT LABOR 19.2 HRS @$ 36.00/HR 691.20
FRAME LABOR 6.0 HRS @$ 40.00/HR 240.00
PAINT SUPPLIES 300.00
SUBLET/MISC. 456.71
----------------------------------------------------
SUBTOTAL $10782.06
SALES TAX $ 7936.86 @ 5.0000% 396.84
----------------------------------------------------
TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS $11178.90

The insurance companies here (in Massachusetts) basically set the maximum rate they will pay (with a little help from the state). So the bodyshops charge full Porsche dealership retail $$$ for the parts. The whole thing is big scam with the insurance companies benefiting 99.9% of the time. If your car has more than 20k miles on it they don't have to use OEM parts. So you end up with POS aftermarket crap unless you fight them.

I am indeed in Falmouth. seen me?

As far as my health, I think I'm okay, but I have a headache. Similar to when I got hit by a Dunkin Donuts truck in a Cherokee about 4 years ago. Could be a mild concussion, but from experience, its difficult to get a doctor to tie the two together for the purposes of an insurance claim.

I'd like it to be totaled... but I don't want to cheat anyone, I just want to be compensated for the less $$ I'll be able to ask for when it comes time to sell. My insurance agent is a friend of a friend, so maybe he'll be able to walk me through the process.

and no, the airbag did not deploy.

the damage indicated by the front trunk seal should total the car out - if that is what it is - your Tub is bent, which to do it properly is 15-25K depending on how much needs to be replaced, pulled, etc.
A shop her will do a measurement for $750 - that is only to measure the frame on a posche chassis gig, then you have to disassemble and pull/replace. etc.

the fenders are what 1500/or so and the rear quarter about that, another 4-5K for a good quality total respray and we passed the total value of the car long ago.

My local porsche body shop here on the cape is Hamilton Auto Body. A referral from my PCA-certified mechanic, and they do all his body work, so I figure it'll be a good place to go. I'm almost certain the adjustor will see the car, and not think its totaled, but we'll see what Hamilton says when they get it. First things first, gotta wait for the car to get back to the cape.

Whats funny is I just put in the euro lenses on friday, and I'm like.. equally upset about those as I am some of the other damage. Didn't even get the chance to appreciate the new look.
