Default Weltmeister Shift Kit Installation Problems

I have my car with an experience Porsche factory mechanic who says the kit is a piece of S*(t and cannot be installed as it will not fit properly and allow the covers to be reinstalled. Has anyone had a similar experience? Is there a better alternative?

Update: It seems that my '91 has the round openings rather than the oblong ones to fit the oval bushings. Looks like we will have to modify the openings to fit and all should be well.

As a newbie, I checked the VIN for the M as the 10th character for a 1991 to be sure. I guess as a 9/2000 production date car, the factory had not been re-tooled yet?

FWIW, the B&M short shifter will fit an early 964 w/o modification.
