Default Front lower control arm - bushes

G'day all,
Currently getting an annual service done and the mech. says my front lower control arm bushes are worn, need replacing.

Does this mean the whole arms need replacing, coz thats what he's saying?

And due to the weakness of the Oz Rahzoo, this is going to cost in the region of $2200 aud. (L&R control arms + labour).

Bloody money pits

[edit] I've done a search but can't find anything really relevant to this...

Cheers
Adam

I was pretty sure you could replace the bushes alone, a very good kit is offered by a forum sponsor (forget the name...EDIT - SEE BELOW) and I think Paragon sell them as well, could be wrong.

Unless the arm is cracked or bent it would be excessive to replace the whole arm for a bit of soggy rubber?

And you have my full sympathy on the cost...I have given up browsing US parts sites. We may soon be trading in beads and coconuts the way the dollar is sliding.

Take a look at this thread https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...l+arm+bushings

Chris Walrod makes them, they are fantastic(I have a set in my car, took care of a lot of "hunting" side to side) easy to install, Chris's customer support is above and beyond what should be expected, and they are cheap compared to control arms. Good luck.

If you want stock rubber bushes then yes you need new oem arms

If you want stiffer you can use Chris Walrods p/u bushes or of course full monoballs if you are really hardcore

This sounds like a great preventative maintenance project. (My bushings are at 103k, and are likely one of those "I just became used to slightly squirrely handling" situations.)

Read the 993 threads, and gotta admit being slightly leery of all the heating, hack-sawing, and bang-chiseling right next to cast aluminum.
But others seem to have done it without drama -- so, I guess I can give it a whack.

Looks like a great recommendation!

(PM'ing Chris directly is still the way to order them?)

It's very simple, just follow his suggestions to the letter. Get a good chisel set, makes all the difference. Brand new sharp hacksaw blade. And take your time. I can do a side in about 45 minuted now(had to do it 3 times, as I broke the ball joint stud on one control arm for an unrelated problem ) but the first one took a while. Best bang for the buck I have spent on the car yet.

I think that Chris Walrod's bushes are the best.

Order to Chris just concluded.
( and Rennlist recommendations once again prove invaluable. davisriley, )

There's been a slight price bump (probably attributable to PayPal surcharge costs?): $103 + 8.50 shipping.

Off to Lowes-Wal-Mart to snag a propane torch and chisels. And a brass or deadfall hammer would be cool...

No problem, just trying to help out.And help Chris a little, he helped me in April well above and beyond what anyone should be expected to. My wife just rolls her eyes's everytime we go to Lowe's. There is always some tool I need. Now I just go to Sears by myself, or hit the tool guys when they come to work. Good luck.
