H4 confusion:
Yes I've searched and read the threads.
When punting the US OE H5's and going to the H4's - is their anything to be done with/to the connection plug to the new bulbs used by the H4's ?
What is the bulb style required of the new H4, same 9004 ?
I understand and appreciate the higher wattage relay requirement but need to know if anything is required from a wiring point of view at the point of the stock 3 pin plug-to-bulb connection.
Advice greatly appreciated.

Two things change. The entire housing and lens comes out and you buy new Euro style ones. There is a trim ring that is chrome or primed that you must have painted to match your car. Then the plug is different. You can buy an H4 plug and replace the H5 plug on your car with solder or crimp on pins, or you can make a convertor pigtail. I bought a pigtail custom-made a few years back so that I could return my car to H5 without any issues.
If you really want to do this right, then you make a new harness and take power direct from the battery to the H4. You use a relay to switch this on and off. Then you will be able to install higher wattage H4 bulbs. If you try to install high wattage H4 bulbs with the stock harness, you will burn up your headlight switch since it was not designed for the higher current needed to power those bulbs. There are many posts explaining how this conversion is made.

Regarding wiring: Clip the connector and replace it with this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H4-90...mZ220288831919
You don't need to wire it differently and use relays if you are just going to use stock wattage bulbs. I have a pair of 55W/60W Sylvania Silverstars in my headlights and there are no issues. If you decide to use higher wattage bulbs then I would concur - going directly through the battery and using relays as Doug suggests.

I purchased h5 to h4 adapter plugs from Pelican parts when I converted mine. they were made by Hella and just plugged inline and are removable. You will find the light output of the h4's a huge improvement over the h5's. I don't find it necessary to upgrade from stock 55w bulbs.
