Front cooling(?) fan is staying on?!!
The fan in front of car (in front fender/wing?) is staying on (for ever) when I leave car! Local spanner (no specialists nearby) suggested I find out likely problem before he starts investigating. For time being I'm disconnecting battery when I leave car (letting fan run for 10/15 mins to make sure engine cooled down before disconnecting.
Is this an oil cooling fan?
Is there a new part I need or......?
Thanks in advance.
Piers

Hi Piers - Still got the 964 then? I thought you sold it for your RS?
If it's under the RHD drivers side front wing, then it is the oil cooler fan. The rear blower fan is supposed to keep running after the engine is stopped if it's very hot but i have not heard of the oil cooler blower doing the same. Not sure why it would be running after the engine is off. Sounds to me like it could be a short (corroded wire?) or maybe a problem the the CCU allowing it to give power to the fan after the ignition off?
I'm no expert, so I am sure you'll get a better informed answer from someone else!!

The most common reason for this issue is the ceramic resistor needing replacement.
Let me get you the links to the threads on this.

I can't find the thread on the oil cooler ceramic resistor replacement... I have a link here of when I changed the one in the AC side... same ceramic resistor. Easy to replace.

Some folks will recommend to replace the relay. I have found that the relay seldom go bad. It is usually the resistor. Next time you see it staying on, just pull out the relay and it will switch off.
