Default Where is the VSS?

I'm looking to install a JVC NX-5000 in my Porsche 964. I'm trying to locate the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) as part of the navigation. Anybody know the whereabouts of this sensor/wire? I did a search and couldn't find any anyone who has install this headunit in a 964 before. TIA.

Did you find the VSS? I posted a discussion last year and documented the location of the VSS. It is on the back of the speedo but I have forgotten which color wire it is. Let me know if you still need. I installed the NX5000. Works great.

It's a red and white wire at the speedo connection - I'm currently waiting to do this job myself.

I'll be looking to find it in the loom down near the stereo head unit rather than having to thread a flying lead from the back of the speedo itself.

Sorry to correct such an esteemed 911'er as yourself John, but I dont think the speed pulse wire is red and white... I've fitted a Blaupunkt Travelpilot E1 in my car and ran a new wire directly to the back of the speedo and I'm pretty sure it was a green wire that I tapped into. I just tried to check but it's pretty cold out and it's making it difficult to wiggle the speedo out!

I will try again tomorrow if nobody replies in the meantime.

For those that are interested the Blaupunkt, by the way, is a very good unit and whilst it doesnt have a proper map display, even after years of TomTom use I dont really miss it too much...

Definitely Red/White on the speedo connector; at least on a '90 964. I tapped into this to hook up to the speed dependant volume on a Porsche CR-210 that I installed a while back.

Anyone who's done this - where does that bit of the loom exit the area behind the instruments? I assume it's under the binnacle and towards the centre of the car - that right?

Well, just double checked and I have used the green wire. There is a red/white wire though as well... I followed a guide I found on here somewhere and it seems to work anyway because the satnav didnt work properly at all before I made the connection... My car is a '91 if that makes any difference. Good luck.

That's interesting. I started investigating mine last night - thank's for the nudge; been ages 'getting around to it' - and I don't even recall seeing a green wire. Could be wrong though.

Okay, I've just this minute finished the job.

I couldn't resist trying the green wire - it worked but I lost the function of my speedo.

The red/white wire has everything working nicely.

Thought you might like to see the finished installation: Becker Indianapolis Pro - Bluetooth, sat-nav, hi-fi, iPod link.

I managed to push to push the head unit a little further into its chassis than it is intended to, which brings it pretty much flush with the dash.

The iPod is velcroed under the dash, and the phone microphone sits nicely above the heater controls.

Sure would like to see the installation. Too bad you did not include any pics.

There you go - the flash shows everyhting up way too harshly, of course - all a really good fit and match.

Ohhh that does look nice, worth the wait. How does the sat/nav display on the Becker? Is there another screen?
