In case you haven't found the problem yet....I once had a squealing noise from the rear which turned out to be broken handbrake shoe retaining spring in the hub.

If the tranny housing is like that of a 993, yes.

From the sound of things, I would suspect a missing tooth on either the ring or pinion gear.

Drain the fluid first and see if anything strange comes out....

Brakes are OK.

First I thought it was wheel bearing problems, so I changed them and, meanwhile, checked brakes all-round.

Tranny housing looks very similar to than if the 993, but I am no sure if they are the same or the surroundings are the same.

Did change the fluid but found nothing

Here's a pic of mine - does it look the same? Also, is the noise constant with each wheel revolution, or is there a consistent lag between each occurrence?

Mine is much cleaner......

I think that the noise is constant with wheel revolutions. Any inputs with that fact?

Thanks

On my back.

With a can or two of Xenit.

And a toothbrush.

And many rags.

And so on & so forth.

Hmm.....

Let's get to the point: where is the source of my noise????

Seriously Andreas, congratulations. That's a nice and very clean car.

Then, do you think that if I take the differential out without drooping the gear box I would probably find the source?
