964 as a daily driver?
#16
I have one for sale. 90 C2 Cab, Tip, 55 k miles, ex cond. Could easily have been a daily driver, but not with current job. Where are you located. I am in SC. Let me know if interested
C2/C4:
Mileage:
Annual miles used: first year about 5000, second about 1000
Average annual running costs $1000'ish):
MPG: Depends. Good if easy on throttle.
General thoughts on use and experience as a daily driver. As a daily driver the Tip makes it easy

I've only had mine a few months, but it was purchased as a daily driver for me and was a decision based on reliability, comfort, performance, looks etc and a TON of research and lurking on Rennlist. Totally happy with my decision.
C2/C4: 1990 C4 Cabriolet Manual
Mileage: 198,000 kms
Annual miles used: Only had it 2 months but about 1000km/month - used every day.
Average annual running costs (excluding modifications - just wear and tear): Australian $ 500-1000pa
MPG: Hmmmmmm depends on how heavy my shoes are that day ;-)
General thoughts on use and experience as a daily driver: Brilliant. Tootles through downtown Adelaide rush hour traffic like a toyota would....only with 1000x as much style/performance/handling etc. Never missed a beat starting on cold mornings. Makes me want to leave work early to take it the long way home (Getting a pint of milk becomes a decision about whether to get it from Melbourne or Perth - 1500 or 2000kms away - just for the fun of the drive :-) ).
Anything else you care to share: My 22 month old son knows its a Porsche, and won't get taken to child care in anything else...shakes his head at the Audi and says..."No Daddy...Porsche.....!". He absolutely loves the car and its something we do together.....how cool is that ! Oh and......A car seat will fit in the back with a few minor mods. Unfortunate things....people always want to prove they are bigger/faster/more of a man blah blah blah....at the traffic lights.....I reckon they are all small in the pants department personally.

C2/C4: c4
Mileage: 98k
Annual miles used: 2-3000
Average annual running costs (excluding modifications - just wear and tear): I don't keep track, but without including de costs, no more than any of the other cars.
MPG: around 15-18 in town, 23-25 highway
General thoughts on use and experience as a daily driver: Once you get somewhere to hold the coffee cup, you have it made.
Anything else you care to share: I echo a lot of the statements here, as it was a great decision, and I enjoy it everyday. Car has been very easy, no major issues to speak of.

C2 Tip
Mileage 80,000
Annual mileage 20,000
De-cat and Cup bypass
Bl**dy irritating problem with the brakes but that's now fixed and it threw 2 alternator belts when I first had it. Pretty economic, 28mpg, needs A/C even in the UK. Oil changed every 5000 miles. Mostly freeway and you look forward to taking a long drive. Had an Audi S8 before, way better car for freeway and DD, but no charisma.

I don't drive mine daily, but I take it out two times a week for long drives. Its a
'91 C2 coupe, 5 spd. So far all I have done is an oil change. Other than that it runs like a top and has given me almost 4k miles of pleasure driving. If I could drive it everyday I would. If your interested the car is for sale. I can send you a link. If you track down a nice one you should be able to drive worry free for a long time. My gas mileage depends on how often I let it rip. It has been between 18-25 with mixed driving.

I drive mine every day and put about 15,000 miles on it a year give or take. Had it now for a little over 5 years and have put over 64,000 miles on it. It's only left me stranded once after the fuel pump took a dump. So I have to call it very reliable. I revently put a clutch and LWF in but do not chalk that up to annual costs. It is 12-15 hundred a year in operating costs but I really do not keep track. When it needs something then it gets it. The car has been great and I will continue to use it and any other Porsche I ever own as a DD.

C2 Cab: I'm doing about 20k per year, using it daily on a 70 mile rt commute. Always seems to be something that needs minor attention, but haven't ever been stranded.
I think of it as my daily therapy, and it never fails to put a smile on my face. I can't understand those who simply leave it in the garage to use on the weekend. My 2¢.

C4 coupe
141 K
~7 K annually
de-cat, primary bypass, H&R reds, bilsteins, 22 mm rear sway.
I've owned it 1.5 years and drive it most days, except when there is salt on the road. The car didn't have much of a service record when I purchased it. I've had to replace a few things which included, motor mounts, alternator, starter, and a wheel bearing . Overall it's been a great car. I do most the work myself, spending < 1 K per year on parts. Mods have been more expensive. I'm about to tackle a few minor oil leaks and install some heated sport seats. I very rarely see another 964 on the road around these parts.

Car: 964 Anniversary (C4 wide-body)
Miles: Approx. 50,000
Annual miles: 3,500 daily driver. Had from new (1993)
Running costs: $1,500 a year, on average, excluding petrol but including odd repairs (but not major ones, see below). Always dealer serviced, annual check-up, annual oil change. Perfect condition. Zero rust. Always garaged.
Experience as a daily driver: Perfect. As the car is rare you get a lot of looks from passers by. No leaks, engine runs perfectly. Tip: Make sure it's clean and nicely polished. Old cars that are clean and in good condition look great. Dirtly old cars look like junk.
Lifetime problems (over 15 years): Fuel pump changed, gearbox seized and replaced, sunroof refusing to close (recurring problem), weak headlights, weak aircon.
Past modifications/improvements: New suspension (PSS9), new brakes (big reds), new carpet and original Speedlines.
On going improvements : New suspension (KW3), Chris Walrod’s front control arm bushings, general check-up, new evaporator, new rear lenses, radio and speakers.
Life-time breakdowns: Two. Gearbox that seized in traffic and a worn fan belt.

C2/C4: Turbo '92
Mileage: 20000 km
Annual miles used: 1500 km
Average annual running costs (excluding modifications - just wear and tear): Dunno yet..
MPG: from 5 l/km to 12 l/km depending on you are drinving in the city or at the hi way.
General thoughts on use and experience as a daily driver: My car is not to be used as a daily driver.
Anything else you care to share: Just a great car, would probably be nice to use it every day, but I can't make myself go on an put many miles on a low mileage car. I think it would be wrong.

A lot of good 964 data points here, I'll add mine...
C2:
Mileage:112,000
Annual miles used: 6000
Average annual running costs (excluding modifications - just wear and tear):
<> $4000 at this point for much needed TLC.
MPG: 17-20 - I push it fairly hard through the local So Cal canyons.
General thoughts on use and experience as a daily driver: I've been considering this myself, but I find my 2003 Celica does a better job of driving in L.A. traffic, gets better gas mileage, etc. I have really enjoyed driving the C2 to work several days a week this Summer, as I usually take the back roads home from Ventura County.
Anything else you care to share: I should probably have taken the advice of my mechanic and not bought this particular C2, but I've sorted out most of the issues at this point. The engine always runs great!
