Default Valve covers getting ratty

I've recently adjusted my valves and noticed that the valve covers are starting to get a bit ratty. There is some slight flaking of the outside paint (is that what it is?) and a bit of bubbling in places on the outside. The insides are fine, or I would not have put them back on!

So, can these be R&R'd? If so, what is the process?

N.B. Billet covers look awfully tempting, but I'd just as soon keep the ones I have if they can be cleaned up and remain leak free.

Thanks,
Dave

I R&R'd my uppers.. It was a chore. I used paint stripper, then sandblasted, then powder coated.
If I had to do it all over again, I would have left them alone. Yeah, they look great, but you can hardly see them.
Maybe I needed to use a stronger paint stripper... the stuff I used was pretty weak. Most of the work was in the sandblasting.

The billet lowers I purchased seal and look very nice, with no work. (Although I did drill and tap holes for the plug wire retainers.)

I simply cleaned up the bubbling a little and used $6 Home Depot silver barbecue paint. Also used it on the rotors. Laugh all you want but it's still on!
Pics are here.
