Question does this verbiage sound like a scam to you?

I've never heard of this BS - I emailed this guy selling a car because I was interested and wanted to talk to him as the phone number listed in the ad was incorrect(whose name was originally Ronald!) and this is what he responded with:

We will speak on the phone after we will have more things sorted out , if i will talk to all of the people that asked me to do it... it will take forever to sell it.
The car is flawless no problems at all , i have to sell it because i have some money problems for now and hope i will fix them fast.
The only way I will make this transaction will be through eBay.

You should not be worried about that because you will receive the car and you can see it before I get any money from you.

I will explain you step by step how the transaction works and if you agree the terms, I expect from you to send me your contact details (full name, shipping address, ebay username in case you got one):

1. I will need your full name, shipping address, ebay username in case you got one so I can open a case with eBay Virtual Protection Program

2. You will receive the case ID (where they will explain you exactly the terms and conditions of the transaction), and the Invoice, so you can buy the car if you want it

3. After you accept to proceed with the transaction you will need to transfer the amount into a safe eBay bank account.

4. After they will have the money in their bank account and confirm me that, I will ship the car to you. You will have 5 (five working days) to see it, test it. After this 5 days all you have to do to gain the car is to confirm to eBay that you will buy the car and you will not ship it back to me (in case that there are miss prints or anything wrong with the car, also this is not a case)

5. If everything works fine, you get the car and I get the money transferred from eBay's bank account into my bank account, and the deal is done.

Now, I hope you read carefully the steps of the transaction and you will take your final decision.

Take care, Tom.
Thoughts??

Sure sounds like a scam to me. Iirc ebay does not do this, and I think I got an email from them warning about it. Careful!

That was my thinking, too - just thought I'd check in case eBay all of a sudden became a bank... and had this Virtual whatever-it's-called ability...

You really have to ask if this is a scam???

BTW, ask deep_uv if you can borrow his standard patented response to nigerian scammers.

Sometimes I get hopeful when a fun "project" appears as it did on Sunday...

I would have honestly seen the mileage and the price and chalked it up to a scam. Theres so much of this going on. If its too good to be true....

Although, if the scammers made the price just a tad less ridiculous it wouldn't be so blatantly obvious its a scam!

Even if it's not a scam, isn't your "douchebag alarm" going off??

Yes... all alarms were sounding - just thought I'd share. My wife even told me if I bought that car, she would require I painted it otherwise she would not ever drive in it!! Hah!!

See, my initial thought was that it was not a scam because it was a paid listing in Autotrader, with pictures even - not a free Pelican one or something. But then I called the number - was not the correct phone number; then I emailed them and got a different name in the response; one email response said the car was in San Jose, not Texas; then I checked the ad again later that day and it was now listed at $22,000 versus $21,000 as originally posted, and the email address at the end had changed from ronald.thom@hotmail.com to Donald_3001@hotmail.com

Oh well... sometimes a good deal comes along...
