Default Advice sought on suitable wheels for track work

Hi

I have just bought a 1993 964. Delightful! It has 17" cup wheels and Michelin PS tyres. I bought some Bridgestone Potenza RE55S track tires and I need to buy another set of wheels for these track tires. I don't really want to drive around town on the track tires.

Can anyone recommend suitable wheels for the Bridgestones for use on club track days? I have a modest income and would like consider suitable Porsche and non-Porsche options. The track wheels and tires will only be used on track days.

I would appreciate any recommendations for suitable wheels.

thanks in advance.

cheers

Welcome.

Cup 1's, Cup 2's, or 996 twists. Any of those in 17x9x7 w/ 55mm offset will work (assuming your tires are 17"?).

There's a set of 17" three piece Kinesis wheels for sale in the classifieds. $1600. The seller used them on his 964 on the track I believe. No affiliation. IMHO the old Kinesis wheels are good light weight wheels. Just need to check them every so often to make sure the little nuts are torqued properly. Good luck.

Yeah what Steve said. The Cup IIs or Boxster/996 twists will be the cheapest 17" option for you. I've seen them for as little as $600 a set. The Cup IIs and 996 twists will be 7 and 9 x 17 while the Boxster twists are 7 and 8.5 x 17, all ET55.

As far as aftermarket options like BBS, Fikse, etc. you won't find a single wheel for $600 let alone a whole set. If the above-mentioned Kinesis are in decent shape that's a great deal.

Default Boxster or 993 wheels work good

I got a set of boxter twists for $600 with tires. There are plenty out there, due to upgrades/upsize.

Alan, if the Op isn't interested I'd like to see a pic. Do they have a few track days left on the rubber? I just bought a new to me '90 that I need to get out to the track for a shakedown.

Do the usual replace...

I have two sets of 17" Boxster rims for track tires (MPSC and MPS2) and they work well but I needed 3 mm spacers front and 8 mm spacers rear).

I also have a set of 17" OEM cup II's available if anyone is interested. Good condition with Michelin PS tires. $750 + shipping. Also some OEM 16" 5 spoke D92's with excellent Bridgestone S02 tires for $600 + shipping. PM me if interested.
