HVAC question
Hey guys (and gals),
I've recently noticed that whenever I start my 964, even when the fan dial is at 0, that it blows air sporatically from the vents. Its not a trickling of air either it is quite hard. It seems to dissipate once the car warms up. ANy thoughts?

The dash fans ALWAYS blow when the selector is on 0. It's not usually much of a gale though. Check that the temp selector is on the blue dot if you don't want heat.
It's possible your cabin temp sensor (inside the CCU grille) maybe shot making the CCU think it's colder than it actually is.

A/C fan operation
I've noticed that my a/c, unlike others I've had, varies the fan with the temperature control.
In other words, if I have the fan on hgh and the selected temp is reached, the fan shuts down to modulate the temp. It's very distracting when the fan comes back on high when more cold air is needed. Set to lowest speed it's less distracting but operates the same way.
Common operation for anyone else?

Not sure if there are different versions of CCUs but my two cars, the fan speed stays steady on each fan speed. I would suspect that one of your fans may beginning to fail.

fans
Although my fan bearings do make a slight chirping noise from time to time on low speeds, it is not fan failure. It is simultaneous with the compressor going on and off when more/less cooling is called for by the thermostat. Maybe it's an '89 thing or a fault in my control unit.
