Sounds sensible having the options Stewart, i'm quite looking forward to hearing a cup pipe with secondary silencer setup next.

Thanks for the DIY link ketel. With a straight through setup, the last point where you cover the exhaust tip and listen out for leaks is pretty much impossible due to the increase in noise! I will check it again soon and make sure its all as it should be.

Simon, i've noticed a performance decrease too. Not a big decrease, but definitely noticeable by the old butt-dyno

Here's a 5 min collection of clips from the last few runs i've taken the car on.
I think it gives a pretty good representation of the 'straight-thru' sound!

Out of interest, on the dyno the car made 264.5hp/249.4ftlb, which is 5hp
more than the last dyno run with primary muffler installed. But that was
on a different dyno so who knows...

I don't think the microphone in the camcorder did justice to the sound. I'll bet the trip in the tunnel was intense. Several times during the clip people are covering their ears.

How much noise does a silenced exhaust tip cut out? And are the MHP tips still available?

My RS puts out about 101dB static, and I'm trying to reduce that for track days.

The straight through system was intended for some runs that are tunnel oriented, it certainly made an impression

Hi Pete, the rainy run was a 'Scudrun' from august, the sunny motorway run was an Italian run upto Grimaldi engineering/Eurospares who were doing an open day bbq etc, and free dyno which you can see at the end of the clip. Those Italian boys like noise, so i get invited along!

Hi Tat, we met at Raymonds i believe...those bolt-on tip/can devices remove 5 - 10 db iirc.

Greg - we did meet at Raymonds, and the Ace a couple of times. I fell foul of the drive-by limit at Bedford a few months ago, so I'm looking a ways of subtly reducing noise levels without being over complicated. A bolt-on tip seems a neat solution. Where can I get one?

Did you get a refund or a voucher for another day there by any chance?

I think a guy called Will was manufacturing(?) and selling them he has a light silvery blue 964 with lots of mods....thats as much as i know i'm afraid...I think some of the guys on the pistonheads Porsche forum have them, so maybe post there if you have no luck finding the product here..

Hi Tat, I've got one of the exhaust tips on my car - in conjunction with a full exhaust system I can get down to 98dB. The guy who gets them made is Will Norman ('will964' on PH), Carig and Peter at GT One know him as well.

cheers
Ian

Greg / Ian,

Thanks for the contact for the exhaust tip.

I didn't get any sort of refund on the trackday. Easytrack had to enforce a "one strike and you're out policy", but they did wait for me to come in on my own accord (rather than black flag me) before telling me that I breached the drive-by limit. Anyway, I spent the rest of the morning driving around the pretty villages of Bedfordshire reminding them what noise really sounds like!
