Default Seat belt & air bag light

While driving last night - out of no where- my airbag light and seat belt light went on. I tried resetting it by turning the car on and off a couple of times and clicking the seat belts in and out - but no success. I searched forum for previous posts but I haven't found this one listed. Any help would be appreciated.

Never mind - I found the posts that address this issue. Thanks though.

Airbag warning light problems are not a high point in 964 ownership. I resolved mine at small cost with the help from Rennlist. It has been 5 years with zero new problems. Good luck.

Yup...resolder of the clock circuitry, and Scantool reset, and I'm 3 years light free!

For me all I had to do was disconnect the plugs at the firewall, clean the contacts and reset with scantool. WITH THE BATTERY DISCONNECTED OF COURSE!

Definately do the contacts before soldering the clock - much easier. My clock is still unmolested.

Need a little help here. I found lots of posts about rewireing the clock - but I am unfamiliar with the contacts. Could you expand on this? Thanks for the advice.

Just for my info regarding the contacts in the sensors....did BOTH the ABS and Seat Belt lights come on due to the sluggish sensors? I thought that the situation of 2 lights was only due to the clock "cold solder" problem.

Bingo. These sensors have a propensity for malfunction. Cleaning did the trick for mine, at least so far. Looking over the PO's records, I found that one sensor had been replaced once and the other had been replaced twice. She always went to the dealer for service, so I'm thinking they skipped "cleaning" and went straight to "replace".

The fault codes will tell you of it is a sensor, and even say which one threw the code. The sensors are located on the trunk floor near the shock towers. There are two - one on each side of the car. They are black with tamper-resisting screws, and have a black cable routed to the cabin. Near the firewall, there is a plug to connect the sensor to the wiring harness that routes it to the airbag controls. Pull the plug apart, and spray Radio Shack "Electrical Contact Cleaner" on both the plugs and sockets (male and female contacts for those who are still politically incorrect). Allow the contact cleaner to run out and evaporate, and re-connect. Clear the fault code. Done.

Yes, in mine the Air Bag Sensor, and the Seat Belt Light came on at the same time. The diagnostic pointed to either the sensor or the contacts. Cleaned the contacts, and reset with Scantool, and magic, lights out!

Will the lights not go out without a hammer reset? Or will cleaning the sensors (if that is indeed the problem) get rid of the warning lights but just leave the stored error codes? Mine just came on this evening

Alone among the warning lights, the airbag light requires a software command from a hammer or scantool. I tried everything, and no luck.
