Thumbs down Corroded Trunk

My car has just failed its MOT because the back of the trunk floor has corroded through. The underseal has split open at the point where the rear of the trunk meets the plastic cover. As time has gone by water, salt and general road crud has made its way into the gap resulting in some nasty corrosion. I'm currently waiting to hear the cost of repairing it and hoping the whole trunk floor doesn't need to be cut out and replaced

Has anyone else suffered this problem?

Shocking!

Iam sure a good welder will be able to repair it.

Is that at the front edge that grounds out sumtimes?

It's the opposite side to that. Just heard back from the body shop who said they can make it good (welding and undersealing) without having to replace the whole boot (trunk) floor. Body shop guy is ex-Rolls Royce (shop is in Crewe) so I'm expecting a top job.

Boxsey, I did a Rolls Royce apprentiship - believe me its no measure of quality! Before you put the car in give Johnny a call at Unit 11 Warrington. http://www.unit11.co.uk/ they're top guys and really know their stuff.

Thanks Chris, point taken. Apart from his background the guy came highly recommended and his rates are far from cheap. The key was to get on with it straight away. I'll be using Jonny for servicing and set up work in the future though

Take if from me, Russ almost resembles that remark

Yes it would good to meet up at a country pub for a shandy. I'm near Warrington but happy to drive out in an evening. Start a separate thread for it

Steve,
I had a similar problem but at the front rather than the back . The theory is that the battery leaked at some point and the acid just eventually ate through the floor - not helped by ocassional scuffing on speed humps etc. I ended up having a complete new front floor - not an easy or cheap job, so I hope yours is salvageable !!!!
