Reviving an old therad, I know, but having 964 OCD, I have to point out an error with the RS America website link posted above. The sparkplug socket shown on that page is incorrect. The 964 socket is 16mm, not 21mm. I think the 21mm is from the 3.2 Carrera?
Only spotted this because I have acquired a new socket from Porsche and realised that the page might lead someone to buy the wrong item for their 964. Would have contacted the RS register, but no email link?!?

Confirmed that plug 16mm socket size, so sent an email off to RSA's KeithV.
He may or may not have been aware of this.
(odd that this would be the first time noted. then, again, not so odd, though, considering the rarity of a DIY'er ripping into the car's tool kit for as serious a matter as a spark plug change.)

The socket was definitely in the UK kit, but can't say for the rest of the continent. I imagine that many of them go astray. Every kit I see seems to differ slightly, so I am just collecting one of everything

Yeah, I can't tell you the number of times I've been left stranded roadside for want of my trusty... spark plug socket.
/sarcasm: off
That tool's definitely a legacy hold-over from the days of fouled plugs and primitive fuel systems.
(Especially given today's sparks trapped behind a cat. -Just try getting to those sparks with that tool kit. Talk about 'MacGyver'!)
