Default Cost to change Distributor Belt

I will hopefully be acquiring a '91 Cabrio this weekend and was wondering what the cost would be to have the Distributor Belt changed.

I wondering if anyone knows (or could guess) what the job would cost at a $tealer and/or an independent Porsche shop.

I would do this myself, but given certain timeframes and personal commitments I won't have the time. So, I'm trying to understand what the costs would be.

Additionally, if anyone knows a good shop in the NYC area please let me know.

TIA

If I recall, someone here on the forum performs such services for ~$175. Do a search and I am sure you will find the answer.

I did numerous searches, I found someone who will replace the Distributor Belt if you send them your distributor, but I just want to bring the car in somewhere and have the entire project done.

Ah... that is a different story if you want the complete job done by someone. Sorry I don't have any answers for you since I am in the West Coast. I would imagine/guess ~$300+ for the service. It's really too bad you cannot remove the distributor and send out for the service. DIY would be even better, but that can be a bit intimiating.

Good luck and hopefully someone else can offer suggestions for local independent shops.

I did this myself and it takes a few hours to do if you are methodical and take your time - DIY cost $30.

My car was off the road for a month so i took the opportunity to do it then.

You can get a reconditioned Dizzy for about $700-800.

May I ask why? Since it's located out front, taking the distributor off the car is one of the easier jobs you can engage in with this ride.

I have a lot of things going on with my job/family and I don't want to start something that will take me numerous weeks to complete because I don't have the time to give it. I do however do want to be able to drive the car for the summer, at least a little.

Just as a comment, it may only take a hour for you guys, but it would probably it me 4 hours to complete since I am very new to the car. First Porsche for me too.

So, I am willing at this moment, to trade the dollars for the time.

That seems totally rational.

Hey, thanks a lot for the list. this will help alot.

The dealership by me just surprised me. They quoted me $650 for changing out the belt. I thought they would quote me a stupid figure.

Well, I didn't acquire this car. The PPI came back so so, with a few oil leaks. They actually weren't that bad but added to a hole in the top and that the car as a whole was poorly maintained I decided to pass on it.

It did however have the vent kit installed which wasn't visible in the pictures he sent me. It was installed with a "T".

Oh well, I guess the search continues. I hope I find a good one soon.
