Default Brake Caliper Lettering?

Hello all,

Have any of you repainted your calipers and sourced decals to replace the Porsche lettering on each caliper? I have friend trying to do that on his Boxter calipers and I know I have seen this kind of thing before but cannot remember where. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Decal stickers off Ebay work great. I've done this to two cars and have not had any issues after many track events. In many cases stenciled paintwork changes color on the other hand, so if you have white lettering it will turn yellow.

these are stick on letters from Ebay. They still look new after 2 years. I sprayed the whole caliper with clear coat after painting so that may help.

I wonder, would it be better to use the stickers in a different way. What about taping off the lettering area (not the letters themselves) and then spray that area white. Then after it dries, put the white letters on and spray the caliper red, then remove the stickers.........however if the decals work for a long time....just putting on the stickers may be best.

do you know how to strip the old peeling paint/clearcoat? sand/media blast? do the calipers need to be taken apart (pistons, tubes, seals, etc)?

I used the stencils - they have held-up well but are not quite as nice as the stickers, and it was a big PITA.

Go with the stickers.

Junkart, the caliper paint sands off easy -- right down to the aluminum.
I used a scotchbrite wheel on my dremel tool. Went right through it like butter. Stopped nicely once it got to the caliper metal.

I guess sandpaper would work, too -- but electric-powered tools are so damned hard to resist!

I just sanded mine and taped off stuff I didnt want to spray paint. By the way i had mine off to paint them and used caliper spray paint from a Auto parts chain store. They haven discolored or chipped in 2 years.

Default Stencils? Here you go.

Porsche calipers, which of course are made by Brembo, do not have decal lettering on them, but rather the Porsche lettering is stenciled. One assumes that Brembo uses high temperature paint for both the caliper body color and the logo color, but excessive heat (particularly in the case of race cars) will often discolor the white logo. However, I've tracked my 964's Porsche brakes long and hard for over 15 years and I've yet to discolor the white Porsche logos on my Big Reds, but your mileage may vary, as they say.

If you're looking for decals, then check ebay. They're there. If you're looking for stencils, then check here: http://www.eagleday.com/brcapaki.html

Jim-
Did humidity pose any problems with your spray's finish outcome?
Was it done in a relatively sane time of the year, humidity-wise?

Some spray paint's volatiles just get so jacked around (leaving pin-point pockmarks, or cloudiness) by heightened humidities.

(The western US -- a supremely-goodly place to shoot paint.)

Disassemble, tape off piston bores, beadblast, clean, powdercoat, assemble. Sounds easy, doesn't it? Took about 3 hours for one.

Or like this.... I did the same process as Fred. My stencils are in, but have not have not had a chance to finish them. I am going to stencil them and put on a coat of acrylic clear, for better brake fluid resistance.
Fred, did you pull the seals and dust covers on yours? I ended up buying all new seals and covers. (I have heard of people baking the coating and leaving the seals and coversin. I guess good insurance knowing I have fresh seals.)
I also milled off the Porsche raised letters, so they would match the fronts.

Ummm I live in Florida. Less then 80% humidity is near desert conditions around
here
I got the paint at Pep Boys and had no problems and I did do them in the summer.
