Default ruf

Thinking of converting my 964 into a CTR1 YELLOWBIRD with vin number at the new RUF Facility in BAHRAIN. IT costs just as much as buying one of the existing 29. However differences in price between original shelby cobras and recent factory re-editions act as an interesting benchmark. what do you guys think?

Good point that you won't be buying a "ruf", but instead a Porsche conversion by Ruf.
So, you'll forever not have the cachet of saying "it's one of the 29 Ruf yellowbirds".

But, brother... it'd still be a yellowbird by ruf!

Investment? There are better ones.
Grin quotient? Not likely to find any better.
In the end, only you can make that priority call.

what is the cost of doing one? i understand you wanting a real deal ruf and worry of the resale or appreciation but whats more important? the performance ,name or value? most everyone on hear can testify it can be done considerably cheaper. with the advancment in parts, software and fuel injection the power level they perform can be made easily alot cheaper. i think they build bullit proof cars and stay very conservative when doing so. i know i can build a twin turbo 3.6 for under 10k with new parts and a standalone that will make 650 easily. have i done it...not yet as i have more important things currently going on..dont take this the wrong way as i think the yellowbird is one of the baddest porsches made. if they were affordable to most there would be alot more and the market would be softer hense your value question..i think either way you do it you have to go into it knowing its a hobby and not a money making investment. good luck

I thought the CTR was based on the earlier torsion bar cars.
the RCT was based on the 964's.

either way, sounds like fun.

I would be interested to know how much you could do a single turbo for and how?

Are you saying they give the car a Ruf Vin#. I was actually with Mr. Ruf yesterday talking about CTR market and he gave no indication that they would do such a thing.

Always under the impression that only Porsche-to-Ruf direct-shipped bodies-in-white got Ruf Vin#'s.
Taking your Porsche-sold (964) to Ruf will get you everything that is applied to those Ruf Vin-numbered cars, but it will forever be a Ruf-conversioned Porsche. And not a Ruf.

Only one entity ever gets a chance to stamp/apply that VIN #. And it's your choice whether that entity is Porsche or Ruf... though, save that ID, you'll end up w/ the same performance car.

Bring wheel-barrows of cash, in either case.
(Saying all this... as though I'LL ever be able to afford a Ruf-anything. Perhaps, maybe, a key-fob... )

Default CTRs

For what it's worth, I was told by Ruf Dallas that no new CTR-1 conversions are available. I inquired a while back, so perhaps they have changed their mind.

I did call recently about a conversion on my 964. I was told there was no stock left but they'd fab up a kit for me, for a price. If I recall correctly, the price was about mid 50K or so.

Ruf stopped building any VIN Rufs based on the aircooled models because it is not possible any longer to pass the emissions!

I want to buy a new Ruf RCT Evo II with Ruf VIN but only conversions will be possible!
