I second the crunchy-dutchman on this one. The chamfer is an issue.. and perhaps you can drill/grind just a little bit of the face of your new allen to make it a bit concave. That, along with the grinding compound just might make it. The connector wasn't likely tight either was it?

Sears sells a set of those rounded nut removal tool that can be tapped onto the HE barrel nut (assuming the remover fits throught the HE holes) and bite on the nuts as you loosen it. Comes to think of it, would a stud remover be able to do the same job? (again assuming that it fits throught the holes in the HEs). Andy

Thanks for all the ideas. As soon as I get back from vacation, I am going to tackle it. I will start with easiest suggestion and continue until I get it.
