Default 18" wheels on a 964 Cab

If you have changed from 17" wheels to 18" wheels on a 964 Cab, please share your experiences. Is it a bad idea? With normal street driving, is body flex a problem? How did it change your ride quality? What suspension do you have? I did a search, but couldn't find the answers. Thanks, I'm looking at options for a second set of wheels. I'm installing Bilstein HD's, haven't decided on which springs yet, probably MO33's. Not a track car.

When I was at the dealer back then Porsche came out with several TSB's against 18" wheels on the 964.

Having said that.......lots of people have done it with no apparent issues.

I can't imagine why you'd want to run 18s on any 964 unless you are heading to the track. I really enjoy my Cup 1 17s with 225/255 rubber for the street because the sidewall is a little more compliant than the 18" BBS Motorsports I run for the track. 18" rubber is more expensive and harsher riding, so I don't know why you'd want it unless tracking. Suspension is JIC w/ 564/674 spring rates, lowered to RS height. I know it's not a cab, but the platform is pretty much the same.

I have 18's on my coupe and love them. I think it will depend on your spring and damper combination.

Fred I have the 18" Turbo twist off the TT in the garage. They probably are to wide but if not you are welcome to try them out and see how it rides. The rears are 11" w/295 30's

I have 18's on my cab and as soon as the tire tread is worn, I will be switching to 17's or possibly 16's. As mentioned earlier, unless you are tracking your car, the 18's are very rough for the street. I think I feel the smallest pebble that I run over.

I share the same observations as above. The 18's looks good but noticeably less comfortable. On the other hand, if you are looking to swap to OE Speedlines, then I think the tradeoff is worth it

Thanks for the replies, I currenty have 17" Porsche turbo twists and actually like the ride. I wanted to get some opinions as I noticed several of you on Rennlist went with 18's. I was looking for MY02 5 spokes for my 993 when I spoke to a guy selling some 18's with 964 back spacing ( MY03 Boxster 18" turbo twists ) and didn't know if I wanted to go there on the 964. As I don't track the car, I think I'll stay with the 17's. Now if I fell into some OE Speedlines, I think I would have to change my mind. I love those wheels. Thanks guys.

Jimq, thanks for the wheel offer, but I believe the offset and width of the TT wheels would prevent a fit. What wheels do you have on the TT now?

Amazingly, I got responses from Canada, the UK, Connecticut, NC, Florida, and SoCal. Isn't this a great place.

I've got the 18" MY02 boxter offset wheels with H&R Reds & Bilstein HDs. Yes the ride is a bit on the hard side but it sure make the car handle well. I drive it almost every day and enjoy the ride. I think the spring shock setup will make as much or more of a difference on the ride quality as the wheel diameter. I had the same setup on my 993 cab with the euro M030 springs. It rode softer than the 964 and the only difference was the springs. I guess the cab body would flex a little more and the 993 rear suspension may have helped .

Another big factor is the road quality in your area. A taller sidewall will certainly help you out if the roads are torn up.

I believe the 993 typically rides softer than 964 overall.

Ronone10, that's the look I could go for, looks great.
Jimq, I usually don't like black wheels, but on your black TT, they look great. We'll have to get together with Jaime, Ron and Dale sometime.
