Oil and big error lights on !!!

Indycam Santa Cruz Ca is not bad either !!
We might get into some house/car exchange program so you could take care of my car and I can...well...drive around with yours!
As I wrote earlier this is the exact sequence of events :
BIG BANG ON
1)TURNED EYES TO TEMP PRESSURE GAUGES
2) ALL WAS OK
3)TURNED EYES TO BIG BANG
4) BIG BANG TURNED OFF AS WELL AS OIL LIGHT
The whole thing took exactly the same amount it took you to read the 4 point (does not apply if reader is analphabet!!) 3-4-5 secs.
I was in heavy stop and go traffic.
Temp outside was around 59 deg. F.
Oil temp indicator was not even close to half
When in very heavy traffic i use to open the rear wing and I've seen it helps to keep oil temp lower.

I really don't think your car has a problem .
But just to make sure , I still need to drive it all around Italy for a couple of weeks .
Please leave it at the airport with the keys and the gas credit card , OK ?

Told you it had a problem I can fix that ugly GP white with a good can of orange spray paint...leave it on the back seat and I'll take care of it.
Pressure when idling ...good question...I'm not shure but I might have seen it around the 3 mark but again not shure...

My C4 will always show the ! and oil light when in traffic at idle. It has done it for the last 5 years or so.
I checked it into my local Porsche specialist when it first started happening and they rigged a manual guage to the system and said despite the light being on it is actually within Porsche limits. The second I bring it off idle the pressures up and the lights go out so will continue to live with it.

I'll hav to check that since I have used my car a dozen of times since I bought it one month ago...so honestly I'm not shure about pressure at idle ...I know it goes down but can't recall the exact number.

Strega,I think my issue is same as yours,I was in heavy traffic and as soon as I moved the light turned off
then I drove 2 hrs on the highway and never had a single strange signal, correct temp correct pressure correct level (my level gauge is accurate compared to the stick)

oil pressure
Hi guys, I had today the chance to check oil pressure levels.
This is the picture with oil in temperature :
1 (sometime even less ) when at traffic lights with gear in
Between 1 and 2 when at traffic lights without gear in
3 at 1500 rpm
4 at 2000 rpm
5 3000 rpm on
Is this correct ?

oil
per the porsche owners manual, anything above or mostly greater than 50 degree fafenheit or 10 celsius using synthetic you should be using a 10-40 or 15-40 or a 15-50 . you need a oil with higher first number than what your using, you are using a 5-40 synthetic in the porsche manual this oil is for mostly lower than 14 degree farenheit or -10 degee celsius. they really do not list that oil only 5-30 , 10-30 or 10-40 for these low temps.
you need to put a thicker oil in, winter is over and you have nothing to loose by going to a thicker oil it still will be within the temp range.
what would you rather have , a oil that is thicker for the given temp and correct wieght and no low oil pressure light once in a while or the thin oil with a low oil light that comes on and you do not really know what its doing to your engine???????
if the engine has the correct oil for the temp and is the thickest that you can run in the range i bet you will not have that problem, i do not care weather you have a tip or not. with your car in gear at the light, if you have to increase the rpms just a tad and the light goes away the oil is hot and thin, step the weight up and in the same situation the you will have higher oil pressure.
1 bar at idle or less is way to low, change to thicker oil and see .
the problem is that they have these low viscocity oils for low temps and some days it hotters than others so you have the low weight oil that is good for freezing weather but if the temps come up to high in the middle of the day the oil is too thin. its all about the weather temp being within in the window for the oil you are using, again that oil is for tempm mostly lower than 50 farenheit/ -10 celsius.
people will say a 5-40 synthetic will flow like a 5 at freezing but protect like a 40 at temp, yes on paper, but its diffent in the real world and depending on what car you have. but if your car idles very low compared to another that would be all it would take for the oil light to come on. lets say you could actualy hold the brake while its in gear and raise the rpm 50 to 75 more and the problem went away, see what i am saying. to solve this you need to increase the viscocity and at idle the oil will be thicker and give you more oil pressure. i bet a 15-40 would be perfect.
dont drive around thinking well the oil is just a little low on the oil pressure threshold but i am sure the engine is getting enough oil. dont mean to be rude but are you going to take that gamble. there are limit for a reason.
for temps above 50 farenheit or 10 celsius you can use a 15-50 synthetic oil per the manual and i bet that light will never come on. anyone care to put their money where their mouth is??????
thicker oils create higher pressure at idle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mind you if your car has enough miles the oil pump might not be efficient as it used to be. have you ever taken an oil pump aprt or know how its works, if you seen how it works you would understand that viscosity plys an important part in oil pressure ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am going to shut up now , but your car is talking to you, I WANT THICKER OIL PLEASE.
shuttin up now
