Loud gurgling noise
Hi all,
After a pretty embarrassing oil overfill about two months ago , I'm having some trouble again.
When starting cold, after some 5 seconds loud gurgling noises are coming from the right side rear. Can only be heard from the inside. It sounds like the oil gurgling, but much, MUCH louder than normal. Sometimes the noise is preceded with a metallic-like squeaking sound (Might also be a belt squeak, not sure. Lasts a few seconds). After a few minutes, the gurgling noise goes away.
Something else that caught my attention is that the oil pressure is elevated. Running idle, it doesn't go below 3 bar, which is very unusual.
I don't think the overfill (fixed by my tech) and this problem are related, because it developed later in time. However one never knows, so I thought I should mention it.
After some searching in past posts, I tentatively suspect the oil thermostat. I'm very curious to your opinion / experience. Some pointers on diagnosis would be welcome too.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Patrick

Before I recently fixed two oil line leaks, my oil level got low and I noticed an oil gurgling sound, same 5 second timing, but mine was coming from what seemed like the rear blower area of the engine compartment. It was definitely an oil circulation noise. Stopped when I put the correct amount of oil in.
Are you sure you have enough oil now?

I'll take her on a longer drive today, to get everything fully warmed up. Will check for noises, oil temp, oil level, oil pressure and report back here. Thanks for the replies so far.

There was a very recent post on this gurgling noise on the 993 forum and the concensus was that it was normal. Tends to happen more when the engine/weather is cold. All part of the oil cooled character.
EDIT - here is the thread https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/413120-993-percolating-sound-on-warm-up.html

Startled me when I first drove my '85 Carrera ten years ago...
Now? It's just music to my ears. ( If it were a pet, that'd be a wagging tail, or a purr, in my mind.)

Mine is the same as meek's. Very loud in Winter and hardly noticeable in Summer. I changed out the internals of the oil thermostat thinking that it was sticking in cold weather and it made no difference.
