Default RSA radio question

The CR1 radio in my '94 RSA seems to be dead. A very kind fellow Rennlister has offerred his CR2 as a substitute. The CR1 has a cassette ... the CR2 has a CD.

So .... two questions.

Is it reasonable to assume the CR2 will slot/fit/plug right into the same space? .... and ....

Was the CR2 radio an option on the '94 RSA? I looked through the RSAmerica.net website and couldn't find the answer.

Many thanks.

Dave, I can't tell you if the CR-2 is plug-n-play, as far as I know it was not an option. However, it will definitely fit since it's a universal single-DIN radio and the dash didn't change until the 996 cars came out. IIRC Keith mentions on RSAmerica.net that many dealers installed CR-2's in customers' cars prior to delivery because at the time they were the hottest thing on the market. My thinking is that the wiring should be very similar if not identical. Hope this helps.
