RA-1 and R-888 questions. Heard RA-1's will soon be discontinued and replaced with R-888......

1) Anyone know this to be correct ?

In looking at tread design and reading Toyo website, appears the R-888 may be inferior to the RA-1's in the rain. Specifically if using as a track and street tire.

2) Anyone any experience running R-888's in the wet on street and DE ?

R888 seem to get good reviews here in the UK and people seem to think of them as a cheaper alternative to PSC and Pirelli corsa. All r compound tyres will always be a comprimise especially in wet and standing water where aquaplaning is easier with these tyres. In the UK the R888 is around £600 a set i think that's about $1200 dollars i think? So what's the price in the USA ?

I wonder if Toyo are rethinking phasing out the RA-1's. Kinda like the New Coke and Classic coke thing- perhaps they'll end up keeping them both.

BTW I've not tried the 888's but use and really like RA's.

Ritter- what sizes on the RA-1s do you use and do you get them shaved for the track?

I would like to thank everyone for their replies! Also I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to get a group buy on tires?
Cheers
