94 C4 lowering options
I just picked up a widebody C4 that needs to be lowered. Do the lowering springs suck as some say they do. This car will be used for street duty only.
Thanks,
Phil

Yes they suck... in fact a widebody C4 is the worst choice once can made in a car purchase. Perhaps you should rectify the purchasing error by simply selling the car to me.
Seriously, I have not heard of any feedback of lowering springs "suck". I don't think you can go wrong if you go with manufacturers such as H&R or Eibach.
Good luck

I don't think I have heard anyone say a disparaging word about the H&R greens or reds. Depending on your milage you may want to replace your dampers as well.

I had a Bilstein street euro RS (if that's even the correct way to describe them) setup on my old '92 C4 with Eibach's. Came with the car. Was fine, worked for light track duty. Harsher than stock? Sure. Undrivable? Not in the least. So how that differs from what you're calling "RS" pieces, we'll leave that for the experts.

To say nothing of heading up the C4 Widebody Registry. Passionate & very familiar about them, he is!

I have H&R Greens and Bilstein HDs on my car and we left the ride height about 6mm above RS levels for exactly that reason.

I had the exact same problem as you have now, Phil. I have a '94 Carrera 4 Widebody also and it was sitting up like a jeep. Bilstein PSS9s remedied the problem for me.

Are you saying you can't lower a C4 to RS settings? Hmm, someone should have told me before I did just that. Last I checked she handled like a dream.
You can't directly replicate the RS settings on a C4 because the necessary RS sway bar cannot be fitted because the drop links foul the front drive shafts. If the car is lowered to RS levels with the standard sway bar the drop links are left at the wrong angle and will affect the handling.

I didn't say you can't do it. What I said was that when you do lower that far, the standard C4 sway bar is taken outside of it's design settings and the only fix, on a C2, is to fit the RS sway bar - which you can't do on a C4 because of the front drive shafts. Just because you think it handles fine doesn't mean that the sway bar is operating correctly. I chose not to do it - YMMV.
