Default Speeding, pulled over, but no ticket... the story

The day after Christmas was beautiful in Cleveland. I call my Uncle, turn the insurance on and take my red '89 C4 for a drive. It's not long before I am on the freeway and pushing 6000rpm. i suppose the wide open on-ramp didn't help things much.

So I am traveling swiftly, but not crazy speeds. I come around a turn and my K40 system starts to SING. If it had been a cop with a laser I would not have a problem (I can vouch that it blocks laser beautifully!). So I realize I am so busted and begin to make my way right to pull over.

So I shut the car down and think "yes sir, no sir". The police officer approaches my car and says with a smile, "Man, now why are you out here testing your car today?" I say, "I guess I made a bad decision". He says, "I have to inform you of two things...do you know how fast you were going?" At this point I figure, don't guess because it was likely 90mph and don't be a wise ***. So, I say "too fast". And he says "and number two, HAVE A NICE DAY"! I was stunned to say the least.

Now a couple weeks later, after telling my brother-in-law the story, he tells me that his buddy saw me and cursed as I sped passed him in his minivan (sorry, but this is true). He did not know he knew me. A minute later his wife says, "hey that guy got pilled over". "Bastard, serves him right", he says. then my brother-in-law tells him it was me and that I didn't get a ticket. He couln't believe it and felt there is no justice.

I know, it is only a matter of time before my wife finds out. By the way, my license plate is C YAHHH... i still can't believe he let me go.

Cheers,

Rob

Was he wearing the same shorts that cop on the show "Reno 911" was wearing?

Twice I made friends with the policeman after he pulled me over. When I was a student I got clocked in a Ford Cortina GT at double the posted speed limit. It was football season and we chatted about college football. Another time, the policeman found out I worked the same place as his brother. He let me off with a handshake. Several times I have managed to talk the cop into lowering the speed. Get 10 MPH lower by being nice to the cop, and then get another 10 from the judge, and you can avoid serious fines and insurance hikes.

Of course this was all in a previous life, and I never speed now...

I did get pulled over in South Carolina by a 19 year old cop. I was very polite and the "yes sir, no sir" lowered the speed by 10mph. Sucked because I was in the middle of nowhere and could have been going 90 in the 50, not just 68mph.

K40 didn't work because he pulled out and followed me...as I said I was in lala land after 11 hours.

In cars I've had lots of luck with cops letting me off easy, but on sportbike they used to really crack down on us, my one friend got four stunting tickets in one summer, $400 a piece (ouch).

I was heading over to the green river in Utah for a fishing trip, went around a corner and there was this beautiful stretch of dark black highway with a fresh yellow paint on it.... and no one on it.... so I gunned it. Then a cop pulled around the far bend. I did not even wait for him to turn the lights on... I was busted and pulled over. "Officer, you bet I was speeding. In fact, I think it was 90. This morning I was in Atlanta, and now I'm in heaven. It was just one of those things I had to do". Let me off. Back at the lodge, I found out he NEVER has let anyone off before... and they hung my warning note next to a big 26" brown trout.

Talking

I was pulled over - radar trap - and the cop was writing up the ticket when he got an emergency call about a major incident on the beltway on his radio. He finished the ticket in a hurry, tore it out of the book, handed it to me and sore off -- I counted carefully -- he gave me ALL copies!

Sorry to jump in but these stories reminds me of and incident in the UK that I'm sure folks will be er... surprised about.

So, I'm driving at night, late, on a motorway(freeway) at 80-85mph(standard here) even though the limits 70mph and its raining(surprise, surprise). Notice a small car being driven badly at speed, outside lane, middle, inside lane, hard shoulder, they're drunk! So mobile(cell) call the police.

Police - What’s the nature of the emergency
Me - Bad driver, looks drunk and doing 95mph
Police - What’s the index number
Me - Cant see he’s too far away
Police - Can you catch him
Me - Yes, but Id break the speed limit, a lot!
Police - What car are you driving
Me - Audi A8
Police - Can you catch up
Me - Are you authorising me to speed
Police - Only if you don’t put yourself or other road users in danger
Me - So that’s a yes?
Police - Yes
Me - Ok, the index number is bla bla (I’m now doing 120mph)
Line dies
Phone rings - Its the police, they have trace back here
Police - We're having a bit of difficulty getting a car out
Me - Right
Police - Would you mind following him, we're concerned he'll exit the motorway
Me - OK, what about my speeding
Police - We'll deal with that, what’s your index number
Me - Bla, bla

30 mins later a patrol car stops him.

Phone rings - Its the Police, he failed a roadside test 2x the legal limit
Me - Thanks for letting me know, and the speed camaras etc..
Police - They will all be canceled

And they were, I even recieved a letter from the Chief Constable thanking me.

A citizen's arrest... of sorts. Very nice!

I wish I could be cop for a day.
