What no wing?! Are you thinking wing for track days, stock lid for street driving?
Yes, it’s an idea. I was looking at some older hot rod 911s and digging the smooth engine lid with just a grill and no spoiler or wing or anything. I can’t recall seeing a 964 like that until this one. It’s either stock spoiler or duck or wing.
Maybe there’s a reason for that, but it’s nice to have options.
Here's my guards red. Bought it right before the pandemic hit. Here are shots of the car in Manhattan back in April, when there was barely anyone on the streets.
Looks great. Is this a 964 lid? Where did you get the grill? I was looking at deck lids recently on eBay and debating doing something like this.
Thanks. Wasn’t too sure what it would look like.. gut said do it. I considered the old 911 deck lids, possibly a repro in CF, but after removing the spoiler realized how light it already was. The 964 lid also had a larger opening and of course already painted.
Car Bone in Poland developed the grill. Based on communications, it sounded like this was the first for the 964. I had to figure out the hardware since the 911 versions only use ~6 bolts and don’t require as much spacing.
My beautiful 1990 5-speed C2... modified with Steve Wong chip, primary muffler bi-pass, bi-Xenons, reconditioned sport seats, short shift kit, engine pad delete, H&R springs and Bilstein shocks. Love this car!
Ubipa—I like the look of your deck and grill. I contacted Car Bone three months ago about a grill for my C2 and never received a clear answer from them. I searched and contacted other people who do 911 rear deck grills, and couldn’t find anyone interested in doing a 964 grill in place of the wing. I’m very happy to see how good it looks on your car. I was going to talk to a local hot rod fabricator about a grill—still will I think. I’ll also reach out to Car Bone again as well.

Thanks. Car Bone did a great job with sizing and design. They originally were making these only for the old 911 lids. I contacted them back in Feb about doing the string designed grill for the 964. In April, they finalized it and shipped in June. Hopefully they’ll continue to offer them for the 964 and in some of the other designs. Good luck! If you need help with sizing the hardware, ping me.

Vanilla Sky moment .......
Almost looks exciting if it wasn't for the underlying cause...
Cheers
