My boot keeps freezing shut!!
I drive my car pretty much every day and have to put my bag in the boot but lately, every morning and some evenings it's frozen shut
There seems to be wet between the bonnet and the front rubber seal - it's not coming into the boot, just onto the seal.
Bloomin frustrating! and embarrising when I go to leave my work car park and I can't get the boot open!!

So what do you people in colder climates do?

Hi ScottR
Freezing shut here in the UK? You must be parking it in the wrong place!. Try giving the seal and the bonnet edge a good clean and polish etc when weather permits. If necessary, rub a little talc onto the seal to prevent the moisture sticking. Still warm up here!

Hi Harry
Some good tips there, I'll give them a go, thanks.
Yeah, been frosty in the mornings for a few weeks now! -1 this morning. No sign (yet) of the big snowfall they were predicting today though.

I've been getting the same! I found out that condensation forming on the underside of the boot is freezing the boot to the carpet, making it extra difficult to open. I've resorted to pouring warm water all over it!
I've been having the same problem with mine and it's garaged overnight - it's been freezing shut on the journey to work!
Giving the contact surfaces a good clean as mentioned above and spraying with WD40 seem to have helped.

An old trick that I was told when I was living in Ohio was to put Vaseline or similar (petroleum jelly) on the rubber seals where they mate to the lid, door, etc. It prevents them from freezing to their mating surface if there is moisture present.

Just an observation, but why don't you just leave the darned thing shut?
Mine's been frozen over with a good 1/4 inch or more of ice and snow for at least a couple weeks now. Anything I need to take with me rides in the back seats or on the passenger floor, so I don't need to go poking into the boot.

Fair point about leaving it shut but I have bags I need to take each day that I have to keep out of site and locked away in the boot.
Been meaning to put some Zymol on them to blacken them up a bit so that will kill two brids with one sponge!

True - she'll probably wonder why I don't keep the Vaseline in the glove box then!!
