I agree with Polman. buy one or the other. $48 is too much, IMHO. I would think you could get a sharp 964 for under $40, and I mean sharp! $48 might be about what I would expect for a 993 in VERY good condition.
Shop around, you'll be surprised what you can find.
AND, I'm sure these guys will help you.
Personally, I had a 90 964 daily driver with a weeping head. It never actually dripped any and that was after 112,000 miles. I now have 40k miles on my race car and it's starting to weep. For me, it really doesn't bother me. I would just get a thorough PPI and leak down. It's just not worth the $3-5k for it not to leak.

I think there's a silver lining here, walk away from that deal- You can find a good 993 for that money, or a great 964 for much less. I'd buy the guy that beat you to it a Christmas Present.

Thanks for the support guys. Keep in mind I am in Australia and that price is AU$48K. 964's Over here usually start at $55K for anything decent and 993's are going for around $70K plus at the minute.

I got a '93 coupe with 77k, I would sell it to you for 48k . Anyway good luck with your search!
