Read his list. There is a lot more in there than the specific cost of a top end rebuild. That is the problem with the question, as most/all of what was done in addition was smart to do while things were apart and out of the car, but not specifically part of the "top end".

To cut a very long discussion short - In the UK I would say use a shop with a good name - it does make a difference knowing that for example JZ Machtech did the job rather than Dave & Co in East Ham...(no offence Dave!). Budget for around £6K plus clutch and you should be on the safe side. And lets move on....

Ian,
I did had my top rebuilt at the begining of the year at Autostrasse in Essex. I also had a service done, new clutch, (flywheel was fine), and I needed a new cam due to wear which was replaced with a 2nd hand one. Oh, and 2 rockers were worn.

Stripped heads, sent for valve guide removal, seat cutting, and re-fit.
Head studs replaced with Dilivar type.
Piston rings.
Crankcase throughbolt seals.
The dreaded tinwear.
Oil drain return tubes.
Replaced clutch.

Bill came in at £4300 including 17.5% VAT.

It runs really well now, and feels like it's got 50bhp back, plus my garage floor is clean too!

Cheers,

Mark 90C2.
