Default Calling Garrett376, question on using engine crane

Hi Garrett, I saw a post in the archive about you, using an engine crane to lift your 964 engine. I will be dumping my 964 engine in a couples of days by myself and will be using an engine crane to lift it onto the stand. Could you please tell me where are the attachment points for the chains and any other tips you may have?. Thanks in advance for all your help. Andy

Hey Andy!
I've done it two ways... one way is shown with in the pics below: one chain through the circular attachment point on the front of the engine, then 2 chains/hooks through the holes on that are in the middle of the mount (other pic below).

The other method uses the end of the rear motor mount where the hooks simply attach to the wings of the motor mount versus hooking through the holes in the middle.

Hope that helps!!!!

I have needed to remove the air flow meter and air filter from the intake boot also - the chain on the front of the engine will smash into it if you leave it installed. So remove the 2 nuts within the air filter housing, then the 1 hose clamp to free the Air Flow Meter.

Related question: about what does the engine weigh?

I bought a 1700 lbs utility/ATV/morotcycle lift and wonder if it is strong enough to lift the engine?

Thanks.

The engine's about 400-450 lbs, so you'll be fine.

Thanks but aren't the ones from black cars heavier as they are so much stronger?

Is that why black cars are slower than white cars?

If the black ones appear slower, it is only because we are feeling sorry for the driver's of the white ones and taking it easy on you.
