Concerning the maintenance issues: I've owned my Targa for three years and have had no maintenance problems to date (touch wood). I drive about 8k a year, both local and on longer drives. I drove 1200 miles roundtrip to 'The Dragon' just three weeks ago.
The key to me was that this board and Pelican Parts were invaluable in my search. I found a car with complete maintenance records that passed the PPI with flying colors.
Best of luck...I have owned a numbers of Porches and this is by far my favorite.
Thanks Paul. I hope to have similar success.

No, it just doesn't seem as though you are prepared/ready for 964 ownership.
I think you should do a bit more research. If you want a "honda like" daily driver, buy a 996 with a CPO.

Yeah, because we're all really special here because of the kind of car we bought.

You'll have to try a lot harder to be an ***, Nat.
Aspiring asses need to apply to the ones already seated.
I'll PM you the name of a really good indy Porsche shop that did a PPI for me.

So sorry we are not accepting applications at this time as we are overflowing with volunteers .

Some of us are simply special since we were dropped on our heads at birth, but I digress.

If he/she is accustomed to the reliability of Japanese cars, then perhaps owning a 964 and expecting the same level (or lack of running costs) might be an issue, that's all.
If you're accustomed to inexpensive conventional oil changes, a 964 synthetic oil change at the dealer might come as a bit of a surprise.

Do more research to get prepared? Good idea! I think I will take your advice.

Now if only there were a popular online forum where I could post questions to Porsche enthusiasts. I could ask questions such as, "What should I expect in terms of yearly maintenance issues...?" Wouldn't that be helpful?

You don't have to explain. We're showing Nat that all are welcome here.

Nat,

The low level of discourse on this thread is unusual for this forum. Ignore the nabobs, please.
Honestly, guys, WTF?
BTW, I'll hang my Pcar chops against any of you...and I own three Japanese cars in addition to the 964.
