Default RS steering rack conversion

What parts are required to change a U.S. C2 to a manual steering rack from the RS?

Do the RS and RSA use the same racks? Does anyone know the ratio of the power and manual racks?

The manual racks are getting very hard to obtain last time I checked. Maybe Porsche (OEM supplier order?) has made a fresh batch of them?

The RS, RSR, RSA and Carrera Cup USA all use the same rack.

All one has to change is the rack and dispense with the hydraulics to make the switch.

The power rack is 18.48:1 for left hand drive cars.

Manual rack ratio is not listed in any of the Porsche books I have.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think the manual rack has a faster ratio? 18.48:1 is quite slow

I would like to buy a rack. Is the local Porsche dealer my best bet or someone in Europe?

Given the value of the dollar, I would try a USA dealer like Sunset Porsche www.sunsetimports.com

I like the manual rack in my Cup and would not want it to be faster

I agree. On some tighter corners, when the front is really loaded, it takes a big effort to turn the wheel. If the ratio was any faster, it would be darn near impossible after a few laps.

BTW the part number is 964.347.011.02 for the rack.

If you install the rack, installing the 993 RS stiffening strut across the mounts is a nice touch, part number 993.347.131.02 . You will also need two 8 X 80 mm bolts to mount the strut, part number 999.218.103.09.

Note: this stiffening strut will work with 993 power steering rack or 964 manual rack only, it hits the hydraulic lines on the 964 power rack.

You'll find a new (pricey) manual steering rack on German ebay.

I understand you'll have to exchange your old rack, or pay an extra 150 eu.

Q: you want the manual rack for the quicker steering response or to save weight?

Curious because the power rack is really a wonderful piece...you really forget its even power.

You beat me to it! Why do you want to go to manual steeling and remove the power assisted? Weight saving, maybe, but you need to consider that in europe, race teams actually converted to power steering although usually electric.

There seem to be a big macho thing about non assisted steering. IMO, it should be the last weight saving mod and if you haven't done all the other things you can to save weight, stop.
