Default OT: Interesting bit of trivia

I watched the movie Le Mans last night (great stuff!) and was reading a bit on the internet about the race today. I came across the wikipedia entry for the race and found a statement that the left side key placement in Porches is a result of this race!

Wikipeda - 24 Hours of Le Mans

Under the section titled "Le Mans Start"

This starting method inspired Porsche to locate the ignition key switch to the left of the steering wheel. This allowed the driver to use his left hand to start the engine, and his right hand to put the transmission into gear. This location of the ignition key switch is still found today on all Porsche models.
Cheers,
Dave

I'd come accross that too, and believe it to be correct.

However (isn't there always one!), "is still found today on all Porsche models" may be wide of the mark and fails to take account of RHD markets! (Just been outside to check mine in the driveway )
