I tried to place an orden In Pelican parts (rotors, pads, spark plugs, gaskets) the total cost of parts was around U$S 500 and the cost of shipping to Argentina 670 U$S more.
I cannot believe this shipping prices and will try to find other options
That is ridiculous. I had a complete suspension set-up shipped from the US to the UK, with tracking and insurance, for less than $250. Have you emailed to ask them for a revised total?

Shipping costs to the South America is way more expensive than between the US and Europe...same thing to Brazil...believe me...it's a matter of logistics ...not Pelican's fault... Fedex and UPS are the ones to blame...unfortunately...
You should try a freight forwarder Argentine based but with branches in the US...they might be able to receive your merchandise and get a good rate by sea.
That's a little high, but not out of line. Getting stuff to SA is expensive
My company ships about 75 pkgs a day via FedEx, and a 30 lb 12 x 12 x 12 box FedEx economy to Buenos Aires runs us about $400. Priority would tack on an extra $100.
By comparison, shipping the same stuff to Cairo is only about $275.
I agree that a freight forwarder would be the best route. You should be able to arrange for the freight forwarder to pick up the box at the Pelican dock.
The difference is the shipment time...a freight forwarder could take several weeks, but even FedEx International Economy would get it to you in less than a week.
Note that you may also be getting the "we don't want to really screw with it price" from Pelican...my total processing time on a domestic pacakge is about 2 minutes, while international takes at least 10 minutes - and always confuses the crap out of the shipping guys.
We freight forwarded a bunch of PCs to India and it only took about 2 weeks, going through customs, paying duties, the whole 9 yards.
If duty is a big part of this, you might want to have someone buy the parts for you then drop them at the freight forwarder's place and set the value very low and say it is a gift.
It is probably the Argentine duty being pre-calculated and charged....I do not ship anything over $50 to the in-laws in Brasil because of the duty.
+1 here...over $50 is better to use the door to door freight forwarders that charge around $28/Kilo and avoit customs...probably the same "way" is available to Argentina...
I found a company in the states that delivers the goods to my door (everything included, taxes etc) for a 100% premium over retail price
It´s a lot, but much better than paying a big sum for shipping plus a 50% tax fee at customs
