Default Fire Extinguisher - Where to Mount?

Just got a fire extinguisher - its about 9" long with a mounting bracket requiring two self tapping screws. Where is the best place to mount it so it's accessible, doesn't get in way of passenger knees/legs and doesn't foul any cabling/pipes etc? Strictly road car use and often with my wife as passenger.

This is the most popular option - Brey Krause fire extinguisher mount for your passenger seat: http://www.bkauto.com/porsche/r2016.php

I wouldn't drill into the body of the car.

Hello,
What I have done with past cars is mount a strap of metal across the front two seat track mount bolts and then mount the fire extinguisher bracket to that. It should lay trasversely on the floor right in front of the seat, won't get in the way and can be easily reached. All this will keep you from having to drill any holes in the car.

I used this mount. It travels with the seat.

It's been three months and a couple of thousand miles since I installed it. I am comfortable with the position and have not found it to be an obstruction to ingress/egress. Although, occasionally on longer trips (3-4 hrs) I find that I'd like to pull my left leg in toward the seat for comfort (just a change of position) and I've bumped into the extinguisher. Not a big deal though.

Here are some pics of the install.

Make sure wherever you mount it that you can reach it while strapped into your seat.
The last thing you want is to be restrained in your seat and unable to reach it.

I found the BK mount hinders use of the front seat by a passenger. Mounting it to the tunnel just behind the parking brake leaves it accessable and it does not get in the way of anything.

Not anymore. I now have a fire supression system that has a bottle mounted on the rear passnger seat area. I use the bracket I made (a piece of steel bent into a U-shape) to mount my Traqmate and not an extinguisher. I used the extiguisher mounted to te roll bar as a reasonable place too, but I got the impression Ian was more interested in a daily driver type mount than a track car mount. I just really did not like the BK mount for driver access or passenger comfort.

This is the best I have photo-wise. A piece of steel bent into a U and bolted onto the tunnel. The Traqmate is mounted to the top of the (inverted) "U". You could mount the extinguisher the same way.

Thanks for suggestions - I like the seat rail mount idea as I am keen not to drill the body. However does anyone know of a UK based supplier for the bracket??

I'd advise against the BK mount. Bought one and had it fitted under the front pass seat, to find that it stuck-out a long way in front of the seat and into the foot-well, to the extent that passengers would have had problems where to place their feet. The polished alu is quite shiny and may not work with the "look" of the car. Finally, be aware that BK's mountings differ for powered and un-powered seats.
