Default rebuild or return for core charge

Since I replaced the starter, should I return it for the $40 core charge, or should I have it rebuilt locally for a spare? "New" rebuilt Bosch was $150.

If it were me, I would return it for the core charge. I have not had a starter fail yet (knock on wood). So my feeling is that the 964 starters are very reliable and therefore you won't need a spare for a long time.

What has been everyone else's luck with starters?

I would not consider installing a starter rebuilt by anyone but Bosch. The rebuilt starter you installed is by far the best, most reliable, cost effective way to go...Good luck, Jerry

I guess I figured if I had it rebuilt, I could just keep in the shelf for when the prices get higher.

return it.
Do you really need another car part sitting on the shelf for 8 years?
