Question Buy a 964 RS for the U.S.?

I'm thinking about looking for a 964 RS Clubsport. Can I get registration for it in the U.S.?

Thanks.

Federalization and DOT certification will be a bitch. But with enough money it can be done I suppose.

You could try going for a "show and display" permit........but I do not think the car is unique enough to qualify.

IIRC, Steve Patti had one for sale, yellow I believe.

He also runs www.euro-rs.com and can locate/import such cars for customers.

And http://www.gtclassics.co.uk

They're getting very pricey, though. IIRC, the ones listed in the British Porsche magazines featured asking prices around 50K GBP, or let's say $100K USD.

I thought those things had the cup style airbox- this one has the french horn....

There is a cool video I saw on youtube with an RS accelerating up to an indicated 170MPH/280 KMH on the autobahn. I can't post the link since I'm at work right now and youtube is a blocked site... Cool car (plus I love the RS ensignia on the non-airbag steering wheel- reminds you you're driving something special )

Even good standard RS lightweights are going for £40K+ in UK/Europe, then typically a £10K premium for an N-GT. Low mileage = even more - there's a 4700 mile lightweight for sale here http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/211421.htm for £62K

I thought that getting a 993 RS was easier, as they had airbags from the factory, and thus a major hurdle for road registration would be avoided.

The link you posted is to a car that cannot be registered on the road. I didn't think that the race cars had a VIN. Did you want to drive the car on the road, or only on the track. I've seen a few for sale in the pca mart, race car section, but you would have to be a member to view the ads.

PCA has a limited membership program called Quest which allows access to their classifieds.
