Default Vacuum Bleeder?

What do folks think of this bleeder?

If I read the description correctly it draws fluid from the bleeder valve rather than pushing fluid from the reservoir.

I've never had much luck personally with vacuum bleeders. I like the Motive pressure bleeder. It cost a little bit more but is so easy to use.

+1 on the Motive Power Bleeder. If you get one be sure to get the "Black Label" version. Its only a few bucks more and its much better. The main difference is the black label version gives you a machined aluminum cap for the brake reservoir.

+2 on the Motive.
I have used both. The problem with vacuum bleeders is that the connection at the nipple is never good enough. The vacuum creates bubbles that come in at the nipple connection, and fool you into thinking you need to bleed a lot longer than you really need to.

Plus, if you have a C4 it really helps to have the additional fluid volume of the Motive as you bleed the brake pressure reservoir and pump, and brake block.. lots more to bleed, and running out is a complete PIA.

Dave, you don't have a Motiv yet? I have a vacuum pump also, and I have yet to use it!!

I have a motiv. Red label, not black. Circumstance has left it, as yet, unused.

I ran across the vacuum system, it was cheap, I have a pneumatic system, and I figured there'd be no pumping, no dry vs wet motiv decision and that I might be able to bleed with the reservoir open and just add as needed.

If you do try yours could you post a review?

I have tried it... back when I raced my 65 911 because the Motiv bleeder, if it was pressurized too much, would blow the fluid feed hose out of the master cylinder! The vacuum didn't work well at all - ended up having my wife pump the brake pedal instead. It was that poor that I'd prefer disturbing her to pump the pedal versus mess around with the vacuum bleeder. I have not tried it since (about 5 years!). Just use the Motiv; keep it dry so you don't need to clean it, no potential to be messy on disconnect, and no need to worry if the fluid goes bad over time. I've got the non-swivel version too - rotating it 3 times doesn't bother me - again because it's dry I can flip it around, and pump it like a mad man without worrying about a mess!!

I've tried to use a Mity-vac vacuum bleeder on my TR6 and it was all but useless. Still had to pump the pedal to get the air out.

What about adding a valve stem to the Motiv and then pumping it up with a shot of air?

This is all starting to sound kind of silly; I'm sure I can pump the Motiv and bleed away!

I'd be afraid of over pressurizing it and damaging it. Seems like it would be easy to over do it with a compressor.

Dave, there's not really that much pumping with the motiv. I gave it a little pump, maybe 15-20 pumps and was able to do 2 brakes, then I gave it another pump (maybe 10 strokes) and did the other side. I was running just over 10 PSI. It really does not take much.

FWIW, I did mine with brake fluid in the Motiv so I would not have to pause to refill. Afterward I gave it a quick rinse with alcohol to get the last bit out of the tank. No problems. Well almost no problems. Be sure and clamp the overflow hose!

I have no experience, but I was told that I could not bleed the clutch slave cylinder with a vacuum bleeder. I'm not really sure why, as I didn't try it. With the Motiv bleeding the clutch slave was a snap.
